Today Is The Day All Things Start To Change At Southampton FC
at 12:18:59

Finally the debacle that was 2022/23 season is now over, long overdue changes at the top now made, hopefully we still have a Liebherr involved. What Markus did for us feels even more poignant now, still brings a tear of pride when the faithful chant his name.
The losing mentality is temporary and will be gone IMO when the new manager and his staff come in. Good business not to recruit the new guys straight off the bat of negativity. The players involved get away on their hols and come back re-charged ready to fight or leave, whatever is their want. The new management set out a brand new fresh blueprint of how it’s going to be done going forward. So very optimistic for the coming season.
We the fans, I think, need to look at ourselves too. Yes beaten and bedraggled by last season, and lets be fair by the last couple of seasons really, with the Club and the Team not really achieving anything to get excited about. So no criticism there. I was impressed with the Forest fans though and wished we could have matched them at St Mary's. When we went there at the end of the season, the way they were responding to their season was premiership retaining desire right there, forget the 12th player, that was the 13th and 14th as well!
For 2023/2024 however this is a chance for everyone to reset, regain the optimism that Markus Liebherr gave us, off the back of those dark days, and create a positive supportive atmosphere that the players will want to work their butts off for no matter what. Not just go through the motions, like we all did.
An atmosphere that visiting teams, not matter how up for it they will be (and they will, cos we’re fallen elite) they see we’re not a club there for the taking. I may not agree with some of the things that go on in the Northam and Itchen North stands, but they have the passion and the noise that quite frankly everyone in stadium needs to adopt.
Ok stand up if you love the Saints, may be a bit far for most, but to reiterate, look at what Forest fans did against us. To the every woman, man and child they let it be known their team wasn’t losing that day. Apparently according to a Forest fan, they had been doing that for a while, but against us it seemed a lot more energised.
So if we want a complete polar opposite to last season, we the fans need to get in line too. Not just sit there with our pies and brought in snacks, clapping back passes and missed shots, when not stuffing our face allows, but actually getting involved. Sing and chant loud and proud, ohh and ahh all the way to the Championship title and back to the Prem with a bang. The future is looking bright in Red and White!

Another Weird Quote Or Two From Nathan Jones
at 17:59:56

Agree with f1, analysing every word just to beat him with it is not helpful. I don't believe he's come here to do us harm and I'm sure he's doing his best to help and get results that Ralph couldn't get either. He's simply and unfortunately inherited a team and situation that's been under achieving for a long time. Stand still in football and affectively you're going backwards. That's where we are, not Nathan Jones fault. He's just the one that's been handed the poopy end of the stick. So alas we are where we are. If we lose Saturday and he goes Monday, can anyone else save us? If we win on Saturday could that be a start of a 10 match run of Wins and PL survival? Que Sera, Sera, so the best we can do to help now is get behind NJ and the Team on Saturday, one voice of pure emotion and positive support. Like it or not for now it's Nathan Jones's Red & White Army. And maybe just maybe with the support, positivity and stance against adversity that as served us Saints fans so well in the past, that will be the secret ingredient that helps put everything back on the right track going forwards. No Bids Received For Van Dijk
at 14:58:12

Not sure SFC done well to keep VVD, they just didn't sell him. Just a matter of time probably. However now the work begins to get the bloke focused. In my mind he should be stripped of any captaincy, because the qualities he's shown of late, frankly, have been sh1te. He signed a very good deal last summer to keep him here for some time, that's clearly not going to happen. So SFC should nip it in the bud now and tell him he's here until the end of this season forget a January move. After the season has ended they will listen to any offer over 50K. He has then only one option to secure a move and make the World cup if his country qualifies. That is shut the feck up, stop the sulking and play with pride and passion like the rest of his team mates, who knows we might even make the champions league, whether he stays to enjoy it would then be up to him. As a supporter, if he does buckle down I will cheer and applaud him, as anything else would have a negative affect not just on him, but the team and us as supporters. Dare I say it... We March On :-)

Pochetino Claims Saints Fans Hate Him Because They Cared For Him ! He Is Wrong !
at 12:35:06

Great post Nick, provokes opinion. Mine I'm afraid is a bit more cold, simply for both of them it was a job, stepping stone. More money and a better chance to get to the higher level before they're found out was the driver for both of them to leave. Only the fans love our club, we're not bought we're born. With a varying opinion at different sides of the scale sometimes, but we all love Southampton FC. Only a few of the great Players and Managers we have had here live and breath our club once they stop working for it. Ted Bates and Matt LeTiss to name two (past and present) I know there are a few more, but for brevity just naming these two. For me love or affection shouldn't be shown to or expected by Players & Managers until its deserved, not for just do their job. RK or Poch didn't need to go, Lallana did, but did it wrong. Lambert didn't but I think we would all agree that to play for the team you supported from childhood he had to, but respect we knew he loved to be here. Claude Puel however hard to take to I agree, but for me looks like he's thinking all the time to make things better and approve on. We're currently 8th possible 7th (after tonight), he's using the academy (our own), but as yet we don't seem to be getting behind him like the last two at this stage. I'm hoping that this guy gets the love soon because I'm sure he's a winner and will have a greater respect for the Club and us Supporters, when others come knocking. Happy New Year everyone.

United To Offer Marcos Rojo In Exchange For Fonte
at 00:06:40

Good shout amsterdamsaint, but no mention of Morgan leaving or wanting to leave Man U in the news. I guess something out of the blue is not unheard of though. I Don't want Fonte to go, but tired of it now. If he was staying surely we would know by now, given how social media can be used. Saints and Virgil would get the best from Rojo I'm sure, so Fonte for Rojo, Morgan and 2 Million, or is that a little greedy.

Koeman Confirms He Will Be At St Mary's Next Season ! But The Ball Is In Saints Court
at 10:41:47

Can't disagree, we need to keep the continuity of this very good management team, because loosing players is something we seem to be accepting. The recent TUI pole, should we sale Wanyama, shows that even fans don't want a player that is constantly courting signing for a bigger club, no matter how good he is. Its clear therefore that Saints are going to continue to grow from the bottom up, losing good players when needing to. One thing though, I would class two other Managers up their with Lawrie McMenemy: Alan Pardew and Nigel Adkins. They started and steered the team back to the top level, which has been a fantastic journey and achievement. Ted Bates clearly a class of his own, along side, I feel Markus Liebherr. Without him we who knows what would have happened or where we would be today. Last away match or home match would be great for the fans to give tribute to him. The Markus anthem doesn't appear to be sung as much, certainly at home as it used to. 9 more points up for grabs, get them and I'm sure RK will sign for the long term.

Saints Now Need To Show Ambition To Keep Koeman
at 10:30:06

RK is constantly linked with a move to the Dutch National squad and always will be all the time he's doing a good job with us. The circus doesn't ever seem to go away nowadays. Departures for our outstanding players, managers, even talent spotters etc don't ever seem to subside. The interesting thing though is with the great players that have moved on and please correct me if I'm wrong, none of them have continued to make the headlines for the right reasons. Poor old MS has been laid into by the Manc fans recently, via social network, regarding a recent loss and he wasn't even playing! We have two and of course the Manager being spoken about at the moment. RK will always answer a question, so the press can spin anything he say's. It's a shame that football speculation has become a sport within a sport, driven by people that are elevated within their industry by the amount of provocation they can achieve. So I always end my stint on Southampton newsnow with the Ugly, just to get a better balance of reason. Have a great new year all saints fans and remember just because we are paranoid it doesn't mean they're not out there to get our players. Saints to win today 1-2.

Wanyama Speaks
at 14:04:51

Disappointed really. He was clearly unsettled by the approaches or more like the reports. So I would like to think his unhappiness is all about stability, so an additional 5 year contract with SFC will please him. But my cynical side doesn't really buy it and his comments are not really winning me over. Personally I would have liked his first comments to have been: love it at Southampton and signing this new 5 year deal gives me the security and peace of mind I need to push on to be the best I can be for this club and its fans who I love and know they love me. I intend to be their mighty Kenyan for many years to come. Sorry, wiping a tear from my eye I do realise this may be a little over the top. Just got a bit carried away, very soppy when it comes to Southampton FC.

Saints Bid For Napoli Defender !
at 12:24:35

Could also be Fonte himself? at 31/32 this could be one last, relatively, big pay day for him. Would be a sad lose for us and perhaps for him taking into consideration that of late good players for us haven't gone on to do the same elsewhere. Nick get the blood hounds and the magnifying glass out mate and try and find out what's going on please. Don't like this type of disruption before a big game on Saturday.

United To Lose Schneiderlin As They Stall For Time
at 10:45:11

I think we all accepted that Morgan was off at the end of season. For me I was disappointed, but accepted that at this stage of his career he needed a bigger stage etc, etc and there were suiters ready and waiting. but it all feels a bit farcical now. Our star man standing proud and tall ready to take on the footballing elite is now waiting on the shelf while only one club deliberates on whether he's worth the punt at the price that Saints are willing to sell. Simple answer is sign a new contract with us, improve is employment package at the same time blah, blah, blah. But more importantly get us to top 4, receive the praise from all the pundits, solidify his position in the French national team and then if he must sign for Barcelona for £35 million and a massive pay rise. Utd and Arsenal would then be kicking themselves and Morgan can play anywhere he wants with dignity, but more to the point the respect and continued support of all Saints fans. Okay Not sure if that's important to him, but would be for me. The point is if he stays he plays, if he goes he starts again and that might not be a good idea at this stage of his career. Morgan I'm sure you reading this, so stay with us and take on the world in two years time either with us or Barca :-). Love the saints COYR!!!

Has Eljero Elia Done Enough To Earn A Permanent Deal.?
at 11:24:15

It could be he's shown what he can do in the first couple of games, but has reined it back a bit of late, so a good price can be agreed between WB and Saints. If he get's the winner on Saturday, then he has to be signed :-).

Pochettino Bad Mouths Koeman
at 12:18:37

Read the report this morning and thought what the hell is MP on about, but didn't have the stats. Thanks for making this clear and hope your comments get an airing on a bigger stage. Nothing that happens this season should be taking away from RK, his management team and the players that are with us now. RK inherited a team that was completely unsettled. Before anything could be done on the training field RK had to stop other players leaving, galvanise the players that were left and find good replacements. Thankfully he and his team achieved that and then got on with putting everything right from MP's reign. For example we now have the best defense in the league and can adapt our style of play. And of course, if you believe everything in the papers, we also have players with the best hair cuts.

Koeman Linked With Holland Job
at 13:04:13

Makes me wonder if this may have been a bit of forward thinking. RK has his brother and Sammy lee in the wings at Southampton, perhaps he feels if he can get another trusted pair of assistances withing the Dutch set up he could toggle between the two jobs. Tall ask when you take into consideration the expectations on both job's, from the employers and fans alike. Could it be done??
For the record my hope is the Dutch side find their feet under Gus and Ronald is left alone to do the job for us. Looking forward to a good win at the weekend COYR.

Saints At Liverpool Player Assessments
at 12:53:38

A very good performance I think. Alas watched it on TV, but well impressed with our traveling fans. So while we're at it 10/10 for them. Out sung the scousers respected RL and represented themselves and the club very well. My two boys came back tired, but had a great day. Ball watching was the problem for the Liverpool's winner and that was nothing to do with Clyne. How could the smallest man on the pitch get such a good header on the ball to set up Sturridge Mr Schneiderlin, Mr Ward Prowse? Still a very good first performance and no flattering to deceive, we can see what we've got, what they can do and become and it all looks lovely chubbly. It's going to be a better season than most people first thought I think.

Schneiderlin Left Out Of Saints Squad For Leverkusen
at 16:55:36

He's a good player, not great, 20M sell him. Of course wouldn’t be saying that if he was not being so petulant! SFC would have already offered him an increase in wages (I would have thought) so don’t believe that is the issue, just being a big sulky pants. No let him go because we don’t want his negativity in the dressing room. I would like to see another couple of defenders, winger and goalie in though. Come on Nick tap up a few contacts and let us know if there’s anything happening? Hope everybody is in full voice for tomorrow, lets show RK and the guys the passion down here.

Can Koeman Actually Spent The Full Transfer Kitty
at 10:38:03

I like the way RK appears to be doing things at the moment, quietly, conscientiously and professionally. Sorting the playing style and then identifying what positions we need cover, quality or both. In Blackadder styeley I'm sure this is all a cunning plan. I guess with bringing players in and retaining others the wage bill has also been increased, so that has to be paid for under the heading investing in the playing staff. So as long as the Saints continue to progress this season and we can strengthen when needed, I think there's no problem if not all the money doesn't find its way back into buying players. After all a lot of money has been pumped into the club over the last 5 years with little to no return to the investor (Liebherr's).

Could Pochettino Be Leaving Spurs Before A Ball Is Kicked
at 10:22:30

Strange one this. I agree with all the comments, but lean more towards IanRC. Mainly because, although the stats every game were good, the main one (final score) was not always in our favour. Teams did find MP out, but maybe we didn't have the personnel to make the changes needed, guess we'll ever know. Interesting though because as much as I don't give a toss about Spurs it would be out of order if he was to walk out on them at this stage, especially after everything thats gone on and been paid out. More front than Tesco's comes to mind. Just goes to show show perhaps you do reap what you sow. Still hay ho we've started with a win (the fact that they were a low dutch league team doesn't matter) on wards and upwards for Saints.

Graziano Pelle Signs As The Re Building Gathers Pace
at 11:33:52

It's clear for all to see now that KL and her Management Team have got everything in hand now. With NC leaving and MP making noises that he was off if NC went, she obviously needed time to sort things out. And hasn't she done well? Personally I think she's brilliant, there at every game, quiet and dignified and going about business fantastically, even ignoring the gutter press and their nasty offensive comments. The Fcukwits. Sorry off me soap box now. Interesting to hear RK say on Friday that in Holland they're used to rebuilding teams each year. His quiet understatement of the situation is strangely re-assuring and I have no doubt we will be in for more surprises in the coming weeks, but nothing to be fearful of, because we're in good hands in all departments now. Loving the new strips and the sponsor, using the name of one of their camera's cos it's looks better on the shirt was a nice touch. It just feels everybody is pulling in the same direction now. Hopefully RK and the new players will experience the magic of the Saints fans in full voice sooner rather than later. Nothing is more passion stirring then when the Southampton faithful are one voice singing 'when the Saints go marching in', fast or slow doesn't matter, cos we're the Saints and now back on the March!
