Some Tragic News About SFC_Referee
at 17:20 17 Jun 2024

Awful news. Poor him and his family. Wouldn't have put him at 19 years old, as he knew such a lot about the rules of the game and gave mature opinions. Don't know him personally, but always posting on here. Always a Saint. RIP Elijah.

Because he's cheap. It's Saints way of signing a "top" (but way past his best years) player on the cheap.

A experienced PL player in his prime would cost up to 100 million. So we are opting for the 35 to 38 year olds, hoping they have one or two more years in them.

Part of the reform vote is also about people protesting against the two main parties. The brexit vote and the 2019 Tory election indicated that a large amount of people wanted immigration to be controlled and the numbers to come down. There are ways the Tories could have enacted that, but they haven't done it, so people are protesting and saying "We know Farage is a right wing nutcase, well you should have listened then and carried out what you said you would do." The same thing is happening in France and parts of Europe. The main parties just arn't listening to people's genuine concerns about various issues, so then you get votes for the far right.

Totally agree. It's Labour or Conservative. Although Reform might disrupt things or provide interesting opposition. I'm also not convinced by either of them, but after 14 years, I can't see a dentist, I can't see my GP (gone are the days when we knew the name of our own doctor), crime and behaviour in schools and society is terrible, immigration out of control, traffic chaos, billions of our money wasted on all sorts, all things you would expect the Tories to have sorted. They haven't, so give the other lot a go?

I dont have anything against Sunak, he's taken over a party that has been destroyed by all the wrongs that went on before his time. But Starmer I am impressed with. He has changed the Labour Party into a more moderate sensible party. You can't get a dentist appointment, you can't see a doctor, crime is out of control, your kids won't have a maths teacher - It's time for change. Let's see what they do.

I think it would be great to start with a "winnable" game at home, hopefully avoiding the top 6. A Bournemouth or Brentford at home. It would give us a better chance of building confidence and momentum. We don't want to begin with a defeat, on the first day (obviously).

When he loses the election, the multi billionnaire might have some spare time and cash available for a hobby and invest in our club?

Having watched a bit of tonight's debate, the two women of each party are much more interesting and charasmatic than the dull as dishwater male leaders. Farage said "Blair without the flair" 🤣

Top 5 grounds I am not excited about going to next season
at 23:28 5 Jun 2024

Man City - We usually only take about 1500 fans there, as most decide to go to the Man U away game instead. We will probably lose, the place is full of tourists, they sit there silently watching their unbeatable team win again. We get given a stupid little section in lower and middle tier.

Newcastle - shoved right up in upper tier, it's ridiculously high and you can't be heard with only about 1000 of us.

Liverpool - Just full of tourists, although the atmosphere there for big games might be good, they sit in silence when teams like Saints visit.

Wolves - We get put along the side of the pitch and it's really difficult to make much noise.

Bournemouth - Yes it's nearby, but always find it a bit of an anti-climax. Small ground, quiet, relaxed fans and we have a very small allocation.

Other than that, the London games are always good days out. Palace is good, with a traditional old style stadium and loud fans. Villa is always a good trip. Everton (I'm in the minority) I quite enjoy. Would like to see us take more there than we normally do. Brighton on a Saturday is a good day, on the train cheaply. Loved Ipswich for whatever reasons. Would love to go there again this season.

The awful stink of Digital ID
at 19:19 31 May 2024

What would be sensible surely, is to allow people to choose whether they would like a season ticket card or an online version. Not everybody has a phone. Those that do, what happens if it runs out of charge, what happens if you have children and their ticket is on your phone (I assume you scroll down to their bar code, scan their bar code, let one in, then scroll down to the next child's bar code, while standing the other side of the turnstile, then scan your own?).

What if you go with the wife and her ticket is on her phone and the kids tickets are on my phone and she goes off with one of the kids, and want to go in to the stadium at different times? Or you go with the grandchildren and they don't have a phone and their ticket is on their dad's phone and so on. It's a bit of a pain isn't it. It will restrict people for sure.

It's easier for some, if you're going on your own and you just bring your phone yes it's easy, so why can't people have the choice? I guess this is the key complaint here.

What happens if the WiFi is down, or there is an Internet crash on our phones or the Russians stop Internet usage for a few hours?

We all stand outside?

I am pleased for the guy. He has made mistakes, but that's life, people make mistakes. We have all questioned the possession game, including myself over the season but despite what he says, he does adapt. RM is a decent bloke, humble guy and I hope he is properly backed in the transfer market. He has beat Farke, and many other experienced managers like the Norwich guy to promotion and for that he deserves credit. It didn't look like we would do it, until we beat Leeds at Elland Road. That was a professional and effective performance. Then we beat West Brom, then Wembley. Personally, I like him and really pleased for the guy.

Personally, I love the guy. He genuinely loves this club, he always gives his all for the shirt and he scraps. He doesn't sulk or look miserable like Adams does at times or Sulemana. But I accept there are question marks over his ability in the Premier League. He can make mistakes but haven't all the players? I think he should definitely be a part of our squad.

Exactly and to think what 40 million could have bought us instead. The players you mention, had never played in the Premier League or any English league in their life. Precisely my point, buy proven players.

Whatever anyone says, and I have doubted the system at times, this season has been a successful season with lots of highs. The players seem to love the manager, he has galvanised the squad and the club. The atmosphere against West Brom and the celebrations at Wembley, who would have thought that, this time last year, after relegation and 3 failed managers? Southampton are back in the Premier League and RM deserves huge credit.

Some of the Leeds fans were sound, some were loud, gobby tw@ts, full of alcohol.

The point the OP is making, from what I have read, is that we are now in the PL. Edozie, Mara, Larios, Charles, Djenepo and the like are not good enough for the PL. Adam Armstrong is a proven goal scorer, albeit in the Championship. We will need to bring in some real quality to survive in the PL. And by that I mean, proven goal scorers, proven defenders, not ones who could be good in a few years time. The PL is far too unforgiving for that.

5 Things About Wembley
at 21:57 27 May 2024

Re 1, I agree that the atmosphere was different in comparison to that hectic, boisterous, tense evening game at St Mary's v West Brom. It was more measured but the singers who normally sit together at St Mary's were spread out across Wembley. Mixed in with families and people who don't often go.

However, the celebrations at the end were incredible, full of passion and joy all around me. Some of the singing in unison of OWTS during the game was loud and impressive when it happened. Our whole end full of flag waving Saints fans was impressive too. I also thought there were obvious nerves and myself included, we were too worried to celebrate, nervously waiting in anticipation, thinking that the equaliser would come! Wembley is a wonderful stadium and what a picture when it's full of fans.

Re 4, we drove up and every other car was full of Saints fans, flags and scarves hanging out the window and tooting of horns every 5 minutes or so. Parked in Ruislip, 15 minute tube journey to Wembley was easy and painless. What were the trains like in the end to Waterloo? Were there fans queuing outside stations, were fans crammed onto platforms and standing up on trains?

We stayed at Wembley for an hour after the game to let the crowds die down, then straight back onto the tube back to Ruislip. Stopped at Fleet services on the way back, was wonderful to see the place packed with Saints fans, sporadic singing from corner to corner of we are Premier league and OWTS.

And finally for me, I thought again, just like against West Brom and at Elland Road, Saints looked like a well organised, impressive outfit. Back in the big time. Well done Saints and we look forward to next season.
