Saints Have The Advantage !
at 13:29:23

Another factor in Norwich's success was that Grant Holt, lethal striker in the lower leagues, proved he could score in the 2nd tier too. Now if a certain SRL does that next term, we'll be in with a shout.

Saints V Walsall The Verdict
at 07:24:15

Much sense talked above. We did of course have the best squad in the league and Nigel Adkins finally got us playing accordingly. Bit too much showboating on Saturday for a purist like me but our side got the job done with room to spare.

Most of these guys will perform well in the league above but, as Nige keeps saying, it is a squad game and I trust him to strengthen where he sees fit. I don't want to see wholesale changes though as our current momentum is very positive and can carry us well into next season (like Norwich).

Agree with everything said about the pitch invasion too. That sort of selfishness robs fans of the opportunity to see the team parade round the pitch and thank them for their wonderful efforts on our behalf. Shame so many of our so-called fans are too thick to understand that.

The Season Ended Too Soon !
at 07:02:23

Goal difference per game played is a good indicator of a successful season.

Only 3 sides in English football to have scored more than +1 goals per game this season:

Man Utd = 1.083
Saints = 1.043
Chelsea = 1.028

Elsewhere in Europe and score of greater than one has been achieved by Celtic, Rangers, Livingston, Anderlecht, Genk, Copenhagen, Dortmund, Bayern, Olympiakos, Ajax, PSV, AC Milan, Porto, Benfica, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor.
So we are in quite select company!

The Time Is Now Not Saturday Week !

I tried to get people to come today. Managed it for all the other home games but not this one. Some people put their families before SFC FFS!!! Coonts!

Anyhow, I'll be there. I frightened of just how important this run in has become to my wellbeing.

Saints V Bristol Rovers The Verdict
at 19:21:16

I assume it was the frightening pace of Kuffour that got Jaidi substituted. We did well to keep him quiet cos he looked useful.

Shocking game, the result of the pressure both sides are feeling. Can't imagine any of the final 5 games will be classics but hopefully they won't be officiated by such a card-happy mong as we had yesterday.

In the end, Adkins was rewarded for keeping Guly on the park when his performance deserved replacement. Tough job, football management. Bloody good job I don't have to make those calls.

Good points but I'm not sure NA will rest Adam. The way he was talking last Tuesday he'll pick him if he can.

I've had my tickets for the last 3 games since they went on sale. I'm bringing The Dog on Saturday and Drew for the final game. On Easter Monday I shall be Billy No Mates in Itchen Block 10. Get the coffees in Vasco - I'll sit in your seat while you fetch 'em.

I caught some of the Adkin's interview on Solent and he suggested Harding was withdrawn due to injury, not cos he was shite.

Whatever, if he doesn't play again this season I'll not be losing any sleep.

A Weekend Of Watching And Waiting
at 12:40:11

Now is not the time to be playing teams mired in the relegation battle. There will be odd results involving those sides from hereon in.

You are much better off playing sides in the middle of the table whose players are focused on the beach not the pitch.

The Pendulum Swings Second Is In Sight !

Second would be good but only because it means we are 3 points nearer our goal.
Keep gathering points as we have in recent weeks and the rest can only watch.

Whether or not we are sat 2nd in the table in the Sunday papers on May 8th is the only thing that matters now.

Saints V Sheffield Wednesday The Verdict
at 09:06:03

Sheffield Wednesday played like a lot of teams in this league. Fit, muscular, close down well, win the ball and move it nicely around at the back. What they, and so many others in this league, do not do is move the ball forward with any degree of confidence. Some of their forward passes were dreadful.

We are blessed with better players than most and it is no surprise that the teams at the top of the division all have forwards who know where to run and passers who can find them.

Nick is right - if we can carry on defending properly and cut out the errors at the back, we are good enough going forward to get ourselves promoted.

Its Going To Be A Tough Run In
at 08:40:26

One can only admire the tenacity with which Huddersfield and Peterboro are sticking to the task. We will need to show similar determination if we are to turn our games in hand into points. No blinking FFS!

Orient also won again. They are on a cracking run (last 20 played: W 12, D 7, L1). I'm convinced they will make the playoffs and suggest the team to dip out will be MKD or the Cherries.

So much more than just 3 points. Leaves us very much on the front foot.

Orient will cross the points gap and contest the playoff places. Bournemouth now need to ensure they are not the team that misses out.

From The Spot - 1978 And All That (Part 2)

LOL at my memory!

I guess I was so impressed by Ted's powerful header that my subconcious promoted it to matchwinner. I still remember nothing about Peach's penalty. Seems the real picture was even more dramatic than the one I painted.
Great days!
