Think you may be wrong. Late 90’s. Think they scored twice in injury time. It was on GMR updates so that gives you an idea how long ago.

Do you remember the 4 - 4 at Colchester or the 1 - 0 pre season loss to bury when Alan Knill scored at Radcliffe, or losing at home to Halifax 3 - 2 when Ian Juryeff tore us apart? I mean it’s irrelevant but then….

Yep, it’s only an opinion and yes of course I’m pissed off that we have averaged far fewer points the last few games. I’m not saying for a second Jim is incompetent, or has been shit, what I am saying is there has been a decline since we beat teams in the top 6 and there is always a reason.

I remember us being 3 - 0 up vs Lincoln with 3 minutes or so to go, we drew 3 - 3, I remember us being certain of the play offs under Sutton, it all went wrong last 8 games or so. Christ I remember us being certs for the league and we ended up 3rd.

I can tell you what the York manager is saying every week, “We go out and win, they will slip, I know they will, we are the best team, we are the best players, and in the end cream rises” I would love to know what gets said when we make subs or at half time!

I think he is a fantastic man manager and recruiter, that’s not a criticism, even KH said management is about man management and recruitment not coaching. Tactically and mentally I think he makes huge errors, he might learn, he might not.

As for a tactically aware manager, there are so many I would not even know where to start. You certainly don’t take both your main strikers off at 1 - 0 as it then asks for pressure. Is TAR injured? Why take off East? Mani is great on defensive set pieces as well. It’s all opinions but we had dropped 6 points in 4 games, York kill a game first half!

The problem is and has been forever with Jim. We don’t draw, we win or lose, then Jim decides to try and manage and it goes wrong. Of course you can blame the players, we should have won easily tonight. York would have, but we can’t.

He pisses about making silly subs, resting players, wholesale changes when there is no need and now we are not ahead of York, on current form we will not be in with a chance even if we win last game vs them.

It’s sad and disappointing, yeah York have a huge budget and better players, but when we had to beat big teams we did it, then the mentality has gone. It’s like they have relaxed. York won’t!!!

Jim is a great coach and would be a great DOF, but as a manager I don’t rate him. He recruits well and up until game time is excellent, but picking a side, substitutes and tactics, I would rather have him nowhere near!

Currently averaging 2.44 points per game to Yorks 2.21. If we carried on at same rate that’s 112.5 points which is ridiculous.

No height up front. I really don’t see what Tyler Smith offers. Surely you start Rodney with Hendo if Mani D not ready to start and Mani D 2 not available?

It seems very much a case of cutting those not good enough and replacing with those that may be, I guess at this level and budget you are unlikely to really know for sure. TBH Jim is generally ok at getting people in and giving them every chance, but if not good enough they don’t last.

Manny D 2 appears to be a journeyman that may do a specific job. Limited but experienced and a target man with around a goal every 3 is ok as cover and for squad.

Perry is a typical mutually beneficial signing for us and Coventry. Will let Coventry see if he is up to men’s football and will give him experience. Either works or it doesn’t but adds depth I guess.

Bilongo is a classic Hill signing, broken toy that was seen as having huge potential but never done it, Jim clearly thinks he has the ability so I’m assuming it’s a free transfer that has a limited risk but may be a steal.

Can’t see any more coming in other than a keeper, hopefully Whatmuff. Maybe a young striker on loan but we are not York so doubt it will be anyone with a real pedigree. We have enough bodies it’s just if they and Jim are good enough!

Thanks for that. Hopefully whatever path he takes he is successful and happy and has fond memories here!

They do indeed play in Different positions and it is a game of opinions after all.

Bryant looks a very good signing on paper, fast, tall, attack minded and was once very highly thought of. Let’s hope we agree on that one 😊

I raised it as a reference to their playing positions. If we could get Craig at the same cost as say John until July would it be worthwhile in your opinion?

Its worth considering that if he signs for say Crewe, Altringham, Oldham or even Macclesfield, because his aim is to regain fitness by training whilst playing and doing his coach badges, I’m sure many would question how we never asked and how he ended up at one of the above. Asking does absolutely no harm!

If I knew, which I may or may not, what has that got to do with you or anyone else? I have not quoted a figure and nor would I regardless.

I said we should speak to him, see what he want and consider it, big difference.

Of course a lot would depend on fitness and the figure I quoted was just that, a figure. He might want to get fit at a club and town he knows, he might want pay as you play, he might want to do his coaching badges and play for less than we were paying Cameron John!

The point is, if he benefited the squad and kids with his professionalism, lifted the club and fans that we can attract a player of his quality, offered a huge threat up front from set pieces, added to the squad and playing staff on and off the pitch and added to the gate, what’s the issue?

Why would he not be worth a conversation? What is the down side of speaking to him? There isn’t one although some here would probably look at the negatives if Sylvester Stallone discovered his grandad was from Rochdale and wanted to invest 10 million no strings!

As I stated in the initial post and since, it’s not about money or we would have no chance anyway. Playing 3 5 2 Dawson is fine right side of the 3 and as cover for EEL.

Anyway looking at the loan signings it looks hugely unlikely now (even more than yesterday) so hopefully they bring a lot to the team and squad.

If he aided us get promoted on a deal until July it’s not money we can ill afford, what we can’t afford is to blow the chance of promotion when it’s only one automatic.

Loan players are not free, we have players on decent money, why would we not ask or at least consider the option? It’s not going to be about money anyway I would imagine so…..

As for bURY, it was far more than 1 player that led to their downfall as we all know!

No. I’m sure you could look at the Birmingham link and see the press, far from a rumour!

Can’t recall where I saw the Wrexham and Blackburn link but I have nothing to gain from making it up.

Does he fit the way we play? Yes, his passing is better than our current centre backs.
Is he as mobile as EEL? I would say similar but he hasn’t played for a while so I would say initially maybe not as match fit or up to speed.
I would not drop EEl, whilst Craig is a far better player I would not drop the captain, think Dawson would compliment him if anything.

Whilst he may not be the player he was we don’t know that, and I would say the likelihood is he would improve us immensely. It’s also not to be forgotten how dangerous he is in the opposition box. Obviously he isn’t a striker but chasing the game with 10 minutes to go he is very useful.

All I am saying is surely it’s worth having a chat with him, there is nothing to lose in doing that and potentially a lot to gain!
