Anyone go to the old speedway stadium
at 13:43 29 Oct 2026

Far too young to remember Speedway at Southampton.

My old man used to have a mate who was well into it, so we tagged along occasionally in the 80's and attended a few meetings at Poole and Reading.

I think the Reading track doubled up as a Greyhound Track, but both are long gone - maybe 20 years ?

We were perhaps forced to sell him a little, due to the fact that there were no takers for Ramsdale - who was deemed an easy £20m+ sale over the summer window ?

Driver and Shotgun to start.
Southampton to Odiham for a pick-up, then 3 up to Sheffield.
1 guy was at Uni somewhere else and met us in Sheffield.
5 in the 'Silver Dream Machine' from Sheffield to Boro and back.

I memory serves, it lost the driver side wing mirror in an argument with a lorry on the way to Millwall - 1-1 with Glenn Cockerill scoring for us.

Still Around 1,400 Tickets left for QPR Game

There are less than 200 remaining, but we have only taken the 3k allocation - unlike the last game of the season last season, when it was 5k.

Apparently he had a mare, back on the south coast tonight - according to the Sky Sports pundit watching their game.

Losing 3-0 suggests it perhaps wasn't just him though.

If he was a perfect as you would like him to be, he would be first choice at Bayern Munich and would have never even considered coming here, let alone us being able to afford him !! :-)

at 01:41 28 Oct 2026

There are still 250 tickets for WBA away as well, despite it being on General Sale for quite a while.

Strange, as this fixture is always well supported and we usually sell out our allocation well before it gets down to General Sale.

If we beat QPR, I'm sure they'll shift.

Five things about West Ham
at 16:58 26 Oct 2026

4. You are right there the ground was about 3/4 empty by the 75th minute and half empty by the 85th . they seemed to have little faith in their team.

Edit required Nick - sounds like the ground filled up by a quarter in those 10 mins !! :-)

5. Still have to have a little dig at Peretz, despite his heroics. We all know what he is like, so why the need to snipe ? How did Bazunu get on this weekend ?

Anyone make it back in time to see Ferocious Dog at the 1865 ? Absolutely brilliant gig.

88-89 Season
We stayed at a mate's in Sheffield the night before - who was at Poly there.
Drove from there to Boro the next morning.
No clue where the ground was and it was rough as up fvck there.
Saw the floodlights and drove to them.
It was a floodlit railway sidings. Fvck !!
5 of us in a Talbot Horizon !! :-)
Stopped to ask a guy if he knew where the ground was.
He opened the back passenger door and squeezed in.
If youse give us a lift, I'll show ya !!
To be fair, he directed us, told us where to park and advised us not to talk on the way to the ground.
Stopped at a Chippy, got the guy from Sheffield Poly to order for all of us in his best northern accent.
1-0 down
3-1 up (R Wallace, Razor with a header and deflected free kick)
hung on to draw 3-3
Ayresome Park - with broken glass cemented into the top of the walls in the away end.

Not sure about whether this was the case in the 70's, but I'm sure that in the 80's and 90's Villa had the bulbs on their flood lights arranged to spell A on one and V on the other. Would have looked 'good' as you were walking to the ground for an evening game.

No alcohol in the beer they were selling inside the ground either !!

Lots of people laughing at the youngsters who didn't realise :-)

Away end at Wolves
at 14:54 21 Oct 2026

It's because they only took the smaller allocation.

Some of them blurting out on social media that they sold out another away game - which apparently was moved from an earlier round of games.

The bigger allocation is at least 3k.

They said on the midweek equivalent to Soccer Saturday last night that Wolves and Pompey hadn't played each other for more that 16 years - so you have thought the Blue Few would have taken far more.

They were 2k short of capacity the other week at home to Sheffield United - blaming the deficit on the away fans, despite the empty seats all around the ground.

I remember reading some social media argument between a Saint and a Skate at the end of last season. They were saying that they sold out away to Preston, despite taking less than 2,500. Saint was saying we took 5,000, so how could the Skates sell out if they took half of our numbers ? They ended admitting the Skates only took a smaller allocation.

Peretz
Abbot, Stephens, Schlot, Manning
JWP, Downes, Matsuki, Edozie
Azaz
Dobbin

Guess Bree is injured or rested
Jander must still on a programme to get fully match fit

Strange that both of our strikers are on the bench

We were 'only' ever 3-1 down at any stage
Got it back to 3-3
Only to go 4-3 down (HT Score)
Went 6-4 up
Finished 6-5 to us !!

Will try to find highlights a little later :-)

Norwich City Game Matchday Thread

We do need to win this one.

To date, away from home this season, we have let the home sides dictate and it has cost us. We were bullied at Lincoln, hardly turned up against Watford, were poor at Brum and ridiculously poor finishing and defending cost us massively at Wrexham.

We need to turn the corner and start winning away.

Everyone is going on about how great Swansea are on social media, just because they are top at the moment. We made them look distinctly mediocre, a little over a month ago, but that was at home. We cannot rely solely on our home form, so need to start picking up wins away from home.

We are due a win - especially after that handball goal from them to beat us last season.

Perhaps we will play with a little more width tonight ?
My proposed team:

Peretz
Bree, Schlot, Wood, Manning
Leo, JWP, Downes, Fellows
Azaz
Larin

Mubama, Matsuki, Jander, Dobbin and Stephens to all come on in the 2nd half and maintain squad fitness and rotation for the Bolton game

Worst Ever Saints Centre Forward
at 16:03 22 Sep 2026

That Downs assist was not really an assist - it was him trying to score from virtually on the line, but he miss-kicked it, it went to Stephens and he netted from a tight angle, to give us a last gasp win v Wrexham.

It is a bit like JWP's goal at Wrexham. Edozie got in the way of his first goal-bound shot, but fortunately it came back to him and he scored. BBC gave the assist to Edozie !!

Worst Ever Saints Striker (Not Centre Forward)
at 15:57 17 Sep 2026

Guido Carillo - who is currently a 'striker' for Estudiantes
Big money flop and the manager that signed him left in time for us to appoint Mark Hughes to keep us up (and witness Swansea capitulate).

or

Damion Downs - who has attempted to play striker for us

Still can't believe he is so bad. Derby away last season was the classic for me. Came on and played as striker as Stewart was injured. Couldn't control it, pass it, lay it off, or anything, let alone press or make a run. Players were deliberately not passing to him as they realised it would be the end of the move. All the Saints fans cheered when he eventually managed a completed pass. It was so embarrassing. At least Ali Dia had some enthusiasm and actually looked like he wanted to be involved when he came on.

Anyone else beginning to really hate Arsenal?
at 13:39 17 Sep 2026

It was a virtual sell out
Arsenal were given 3000 tickets
Like at many clubs, those that miss out on the official tickets seek them elsewhere - Saints at Colchester for example, this season
If you go in the home end, don't wear the shirt or act like a d1ck

I remember about 4 seasons back, a whole family of 5 or 6 Arsenal fans including kids, came in late to the game in the Saints Family Section. They soon got their coats off and Shirts out, at which point the complaints started and Stewards moved in. They obviously objected and said it was for their kids, but were escorted out. They either joined Saints as members, bought off touts, or some ST holders got them the tickets. I wonder if anything was ever done. Probably not.
