great song writers......
at 00:47 28 May 2024

Argh! Forgot the Boss...!

Goffin & King and Bert Burns already mentioned above, but other Brill Building writers were excellent too. Especially:

Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller
Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill
Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich
George "Shadow" Morton
Neil Sedaka
Neil Diamond
And, of course, the late — and perhaps not too lamented — Phil Spector

First Division (omitting those mentioned eg: Dylan and Webb

Joni Mitchell
Laura Nyro
John Sebastian
Chip Taylor
Bert Berns

Second Division

Donovan Leitch
Steve Marriott
Pete Townshend
Neil Young

Plenty more but they spring most easily to mind.

He's said, on more than one occasion, that it was his time in Turkey that turned him into an effective player.

Marti Contract??
at 01:33 23 May 2024

I've always thought that the first 12 months of a contract should be completely and utterly guaranteed.

But how? You can impose financial conditions but they can be paid by the other party if the individual is wanted badly enough.

She's been a fixture on Union's bench in 1 Bundesliga for most of the season

There have also been female head coaches in the French lower divisions for a few years,

I don't think there were betting odds on football back then. There was just the pools.

Joe Walsh

That's probably because you and I watch a fair bit of the NHL, where a senior keeper who slowly transitions to a younger one isn't that uncommon. But it's a longer season, so a poor game now and again over 80 odd isn't as disastrous as it could be in the Championship. Having said that I agree with you. It's worth the risk, otherwise it's talent wasted. Begovich might be a better teacher/mentor than he is a top level keeper at this point.

Is Reggy Cannon now the only weak link in our defence?
at 15:15 5 May 2024

This past half season Marti mainly had to serve a dish with ingredients he was given. Some important ones will undoubtedly leave. Others, more suited to the style he'd like to play, will arrive. Until they do speculation may be fun, but it's all just wishing and hoping.

FWIW Marti spoke very positively about him in the post-match presser. Of course the cynic in me thinks that he's just trying to boost the transfer fee.

Are we capable of going up next season.
at 19:58 1 May 2024

Lots of variables naturally, but play-offs* are not unreasonable. Our record post-Marti's arrival indicates that.

* Personally I despise the EPL. I'd love to win the play-offs then decline promotion. It would really put the cat among the pigeons. Just a dream of course.

Transfer rumours 2024

By attendance, they're one of the biggest clubs in Germany. A big part of the reason why 2 Bundesliga had larger average attendances than 1 Bundesliga this season.

Cifuentes on Leeds

I've wondered about him being tempted away too.

There's no way of knowing of course but my guess is he'll feel his job isn't done here yet. He doesn't strike me, at least, as someone who'll jump at the first big offer. Especially as he's won the credibility of our players, our fans, and — I imagine — the suits in the front office. That's worth a ton of goodwill which a smart manager realises money can't buy. Step one is done: we're still a Championship team. Step two: we can be be a playoff team... at the very least. He'll want to use that banked goodwill to prove it.

Begovic
at 20:03 28 Apr 2024

Yeah, it shouldn't be an either/or situation. I've certainly been critical of Begovich, but he is an experienced pro. However we need a hungry youngster legitimately pushing him for a place. It doesn't look as if Walsh is that guy, based on his lack of playing opportunities, so we definitely need to find someone who is.

I think it might be worth trying find out whether a couple of younger players can play positions other than ones that are currently occupied by more experienced fixtures. Larkeche and Cannon spring to mind. They're not going replace Dunne and Paal, but could they play anywhere else? Larkeche seems totally left sided, but could he do a job farther upfield, especially if Chair is unavailable? What else might Cannon offer defensively?

If you calculated Championship scores from the beginning of this year we'd be a top six team tonight. That's what Cifuentes has done for our club.
