Pompey get a welcome double defensive comeback boost
Tuesday, 6th Feb 2018 21:41 by staff

In a season in which significant injuries have hit Pompey hard, there was positive news on the comeback as Jack Whatmough made his eagerly-anticipated comeback for the reserves at Bognor.

Whatmough played the first half of a 1-1 draw against Leicester at Nyewood Lane in the Premier League Cup.

It was the defender's first competitive action since he picked up his latest injury five months ago.

Brandon Haunstrup also played to help prove his fitness after injury.

Whatmough was replaced by Joe Hancott for the second half in a pre-planned move.

Leon Maloney put Pompey ahead midway through the second half but Josh Eppiah made the final score 1-1.

Pompey: Bass; Dandy, Casey, Whatmough (Hancott 46), Haunstrup (Johnston 64); Bedford, Douglas, Widdrington; Lethbridge (Maloney 49), Smith, Chaplin (c) Subs not used: Collins, Read.
