Experience and leadership - two of John Swift's qualities that led Pompey to sign him.

The 30-year-old from Gosport has put his name to a two-year-contract that adds up to a Fratton Park return for the former Blues academy midfielder.

Swift played for England under-21s international and has represented Chelsea, Rotherham, Swindon, Brentford, Reading and - most recently - West Brom.
Swift scored 33 goals in 202 games in six years with Reading and played more than 100 games for the Baggies.

Pompey boss John Mousinho told the club media: 'John is a player with bags of Championship experience and is a real leader – both on and off the pitch.

'He possesses all the qualities we were looking for in a midfielder, as the club look to build on what was a positive first campaign back at this level.

'We’re delighted to add John to the squad relatively early in pre-season and I’m really looking forward to working with him as we build up to our first competitive fixture next month.'
