Seeing the goal that Howard got for Everton the other night took me back to Boxing Day 1974. My memory is that Phil Parkes either did score or very nearly scored an almost identical goal in what was a typical Boxing Day goalfest (4-2 v Leicester), can anyone else remember the incident?

For what it's worth the players including Parkes, Francis, Givens et al were in the same pub as me in Slough on that Christmas Eve lunchtime where Parksie was swigging straight from pint bottles of Courage Light Ale, which is probably why Boxing Day used to allways have some "interesting" scorelines around that time.

Weird, we were posting that almost at the same time.

Anyway at least it's settled my mind on the incident.

As I remember Westwood was about 3 yards into their half and the referee deemed that he was "interfering with play" as the ball nestled in their net 50 yards away!!
