QPR’s squad celebrated avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season by putting in a jubilant phone call to Stoke City striker Jon Walters.
Mark Hughes’ side stayed up despite their last day defeat to champions Manchester City because fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers failed to better their result at Stoke.
And goalscorer Walters was the man responsible for ensuring that didn’t happen. The R’s showed their appreciation by calling Walters from the team bus and chanting their approval.
Defender Clint Hill told The Football Ramble: “I love Jonny. Jonny’s a good friend of mine. I think on the coach on the way to the plane we all rung him up.
“I got him on my phone and we started singing ‘Jonny Walters’. ‘We love you Jonny, we do,” you know.
“He scored two goals and kept us up, practically.”
