What about the old double-decker buses that used to go from the Town Hall to the match. They`d be ideal now for an allotment.

Can`t understand why Tutonda hasn`t more game time or even on the bench. Only the notorious Brackley game plus a few cup games.
His League record is pretty good despite the Morecambe experience and he is only 30.
Maybe a training problem?

Ah so you spotted my deliberate mistake Wilson.
Surprised you missed my other error.

The Accy/Dale match can`t have been a night match, as it was the "Sunday" People showed the picture and I was a teenager on pocket money at the time and wouldn`t be able to get there without my elder brother accompanying me after school.

However I will excuse you in this instance, though I know you are the font of all knowledge.

Well remember a cold night in Peel Park in 1962 when the People showed a photo of Rochdale beating Accy 2-0 in front of a virtually empty stadium with the headline. "Accrington Stanley 0- Rochdale 2- and who cares?" If I remember right the crowd was under 1,000 and it was one of the last games(or maybe even the last) before they resigned from the league after 33 games.

I remember feeling cheated out of the 2 points.

Enter Robert Maxwell and Oxford United (renamed from Headington if I remember right).

You obviously have more faith in Jim`s concentration on attackers than I have.

Going through the posts here I think nearly all agree that we have a problem putting the ball in the net considering how many chances we create. The keeper didn`t make a save in the second half.

The Scunny result was not a bad result when you take in the defeats of Southend, Carlisle, Boreham Wood and Forest Green. But not beating a poor side like Yeovil even when down to 10 IS a worry.

It shows that our finishing has become dreadful. So many shots are lifted over the bar. When you see them practising with the small nets before a game, they are dynamic with only the keeper to beat, but go to pieces in the game. I wonder how much shooting practise they are given.

The problem is with Tyler Smith out of action and Hendo reduced to bit parts, and Devante not scoring, we have no goalscorers of any quality.

It`s all very well saying "Don`t panic" but we are now on the run-in and need to treat it as such. It`s not too late to sign up a young striker from the EFL on a short contract loan. If we can sign up yet another midfielder ,on a long-term contract then surely we have the funds to go for it.

I don`t know whether you saw Mark Hughes`s comments after the previous match, but he was saying the top position was a 2 horse race now and they could concentrate on playoffs. Hughes is quite a complex character so could have been playing games, but I don`t think so.

Possibly he can`t see them catching York.

But after the latest game they are back more in touch with us, so as everyone says, wins are all essential.

The "number 10" conundrum continues.

Yesterday we played on paper a very attacking starting line-up with Barlow East Pettit and Burger in midfield. In the 10th minute we scored a beautiful through ball goal from Mani to Barlow. I never saw another attempt at a through ball during the whole match. Instead the wings were heavily used. This has been very productive especially on the right with Tobi and Kyron, but they were double marked every time they got the ball, particularly in the 2nd half. Word gets round. They ignored our left side which produced virtually nothing throughout.

It was unlucky the sending off happened after Mani was substituted as said on here, and particularly as Rodney had one of his off days.

Jim said on interview we had "loads of shots from our midfielders". Too true, and they were mostly awful except for a decent attempt by Pettit late on, but I think we are now suffering from our non-scoring midfielders. If Mani and Rodney don`t score we will always struggle to find goals.

Watching the line from the stand right in front in the second half, you could see Hendo doing what Hendo does which is to constantly juggle his position and demand the ball. Nobody obliged yesterday. Instead they chose the easy route down the right wing. Surely Mani is not the only one who can play a through ball.

Not sure Barlow Burger and Pettit is a good combination in midfield.

Devante Rodney
at 13:45 13 Feb 2026

I must confess to being a huge Devante Rodney fan. He must scare defenders to death with his power and strong running game. Last season with that amazing burst of 8 goals in 7 games, he pulled us up from 6/7th to 4th in the league with help from Hendo.
But he did that as the main striker with the demise of Mitchell.

This season he seems to be trying too hard to score at so many opportunities when his assists for Mani D in particular would be just as valuable as any goal.

He is such a dangerous player and few teams have that advantage.

Sir, you make so much sense. If Jim rests EEL tomorrow we need to start talking Brackley again.

if you look me up at Yeovil tomorrow I will stand you a pint.

Agree with all who say not to rest our key players, They are all on a roll and will be pumped up. Can`t imagine of them wanting to rest. By all means use the subs if necessary. EEL is just turned 33, is playing his best football for the Dale. captaining the side and is introducing Perry to men`s football. Hogan is 37 and is providing support.

Incidentally this game at Yeovil is the same game last season when EEL collapsed with his injury after 20 minutes and Ferguson took over very successfully. But Jim obviously didn`t like Ferguson and soon after recruited Hogan who took over the 26 games that EEL was out injured. I don`t think EEL will want to miss this match.

In midfield, we now have the following

East Age 27 Current contract 6/27
Pettit 22 Contract 6/27
Francis 26 Contract 6/28

Gilmour 27 6/26
McBride 24 6/26
Barlow 26 6/26
Burger 21 6/26
Gomez-M 24 6/26
Pritchard 29 6/26

We also have out on loan

Edwards 18 6/26
Humbles 22 6/27

With 9 midfielders on the payroll plus the 2 loanees I am assuming Jim is thinking far ahead. Jan/Feb seems to be the time of the season when new contracts are being discussed.

I,m not denigrating anything. This is the best sustained start I can remember, My concern is that we have become increasingly near to dropping points since we didn`t have Mani D`s and Rodney`s goals recently, and we have had an incredibly lucky run of fixtures against teams in the lower part of the league. See my previous posts. Southend was very important though a close run thing, and helped by their surprising tactics in joining us in containment right from the start.

We need to keep the accelerator down.

Can`t agree with you re where the main problem lies.
We may need to rotate strikers due to change of circumstances re injury, suspension, loss of form or any of the issues affecting a team going all out for promotion, as I hope we are.

Those 5 players you mention are none of them goalscorers in the event. They have scored between them in 47 league starts a total of 7 goals, or roughly 1 goal every 7 starts. They could never be classified as goalscoring Number 10`s. What i am talking about is players who can put the ball in the net on a regular basis, Mani D has proved that here and Tyler Smith looked to be heading in the right direction. Duku is an unknown quantity to us inevitably, but I cannot see Jim playing him in the Number 10 role.

It may be significant that so many of our recent goals have come from defence and midfield, but we need more from the attack.

My overall point is that we need as much forward power as possible if we seriously want outpace York, and 90th minute winners won`t keep coming, nor wind affected crosses ending in the net or a left-foot scorcher from Ryan G.

Hendo could answer the call if he is given enough starts.

Oh for a Glen Murray.
