Jose Moreira is now seeing his Premier League dreams coming true having been inspired by some big names to make the move

Moreira signed for Swansea City and follows some of his former team mates to the Premier League with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo have represented Manchester United and Ramires at Chelsea.

And he hopes - despite Brendan looking for another goalkeeper - to make the number 1 spot his own at the club “Playing in the Premier League has been something on my mind since I was a teenager and first went to Benfica,” Moreira told the Western Mail. “I remember Cristiano signing for Manchester United as a young player and we used to speak a lot about the Premier League when we were together in the national teams. And he used to say the same as other players have told me about how amazing it is for the football, for the fans and for the quality of the games.

“I have a lot of friends in the Premier League, like David Luiz who I played with at Benfica and spoke to when I signed. He was pleased for me and said that going to Swansea would be very good for me.

“And there are others like Ramires at Chelsea from Benfica, Jose Boswinga at Chelsea and Nani at Man Utd; these are all guys who have come from Portugal to achieve in the Premier League and I hope I can have the same success.

“I have not spoken to Ronaldo for a while, but he and Manchester United did wonderful things here and, although I cannot expect to do the same because he is one of the best in the world, I will fight and train hard because I want to be the best I can be.

“I want to be here to help the team because when you are playing and you do that things can grow.

“I hope to be the No.1,” he said. “It’s a new challenge for me after 12 years at Benfica and I was a bit scared because this is a change of city, a change of country and a change of life completely. But the people have been very friendly to help me settle and now my goal is to give them happiness and help the team achieve their goals.

“I will respect Brendan’s choice, but I promise to work hard. One of the reasons I came here is that I know if I play there can be opportunities for me with the Portugal team.

“And, while there will be pressure, pressure can be good if you know how to control it and use it.

“I have played in the Olympics, been at Euro 2004 and played in important matches for the national side and in the Champions League and Europa League.

“I have a lot of experience. Now I have come here the challenge is to show that on the pitch and help Swansea.”
