Chairman Gianni Paladini gave a typically eccentric interview to BBC Radio LDN this evening and it seems, fingers crossed, that a takeover of the club could be close. The anti Paladini crew needn't worry though, he says he's staying at the club until it reaches the Premiership.

Thankfully it wasn't that big sweaty octopus Steve Bunce doing the sports show tonight and trying to crow bar West Ham into every second sentence in-between mopping his brow. That relief soon turned to confusion though a Paladini had clearly assumed his usual position for these Radio London interviews - in the bath on a mobile phone bought in 1987.

At the risk of jeopardising a deal, and as QPR supporter Paul Finney rightly pointed out in a proceding interview why are those that know a little bit about a this deal being urged to keep quiet while it goes through but Paladini is allowed to broadcast sketchy details to the greater London area, we'll stick to what Paladini said and not the scuttlebutt that has been knocking around.

For those that missed it Paladini was in typically eccentric and buoyant form as he repeated his promise that if somebody steps out of the shadows who he feels can move the club forward he will gladly sell it to them and exit stage left. Paladini said he I "confident something will happen very soon".

When pushed further on who these potential new investors were he said: "It is my wife, and my mistress - they will buy the club" before saying that seriously he knows the new investors personally, they are his people.

Paladini immediately dismissed message board rumours that former Chairman Bill Power was set for a return saying: "It's not bill power - he would be welcome if he wanted to come in as a director. Bill and I, what happened in the past was nothing to do with Bill. I have plenty to do with Bill, we go out and have a meal, Bill has to sort himself out with Swindon first."

When pushed further on whether the new people were businessmen, or football men, or a consortium Paladini said: "They are not involved in football but I cannot really, please do not ask, I promise in the past we were close to refinancing ABC and then something happened, and then something happened, so all I can say is it looks good, I have shaken hands with them, we just have to sort out the people in Monte Carlo leaving. that's the only thing at the moment.

"If we agree everything it can be done tomorrow but it's not agreed."

Presenter David Croft then started asking questions about the now infamous loan from Simon Blitz, whether it had been paid back yet, whether the stories about a football league transfer embargo were true and if QPR would be getting their share of the Football League's £90m pay out.

Paladini spoke very quickly and passionately about all the things people said were going to happen at QPR over the past 12 months - stories of administration, football league investigations, points deductions and so on that hadn't happened and hadn't been true.

He then said: "The arrangement with Blitz is done. The agreement is done, I feel very angry about what happened there. Of course we pay it back, it's agreed, we pay it back in time it's under control, guaranteed 100%, no problem there are at all.

"Where is the embargo? We wanted players, we bought players, John Gregory has brought seven in. It's not true at all, honestly, do you want to see the letters from the league? The embargo was put on us before we started to pay money back to Blitz - now we're paying it back the embargo has been lifted.

"If it wasn't it would be stupid to parade Camp and Walton at Wycombe, what kind of game would that be if we hadn't actually signed them?"

Paladini then turned on Croft and asked who'd come up with the idea that we wouldn't be getting our share of the £90m. He told him to come up with an explanation why we shouldn't get it and Croft told him it was because we owed Oldham's Chairman £500k.

Paladini said: "We've done that, now you're coming back to it. You're 100% wrong on that. If we haven't paid it to Blitz I will resign tomorrow. It's repaid to Blitz. We don't owe Blitz £500k."

Back at the original point of the conversation - the takeover - Paladini said people in London would be "gobsmacked, you won't believe it" and he said he would be staying on as Chairman with a minor shareholding, and would remain at QPR until they reached the Premier League.

Good news for the journalists at Radio London looking for stories and entertaining interview subjects.

A day after this interview the Daily Mail gave a slightly different interpretation of the situation regarding Blitz and the transfer embargo: New signings Simon Walton and Lee Camp may be banned from starting the season with QPR.

The Football League are refusing to allow Rangers to register new players until they repay a £500,000 loan from Oldham chairman Simon Blitz - there is understood to be £300,000 left.
