Rose joins Northampton on loan, Ramage relishes new season – evening news Thursday, 6th Aug 2009 22:05 Young winger Romone Rose has joined League Two side Northampton Town on a month long loan deal following a successful trial. Back at Loftus Road Peter Ramage is confident of success this season.
Rose started the pre-season in the QPR first team at Aldershot where he played in an unorthodox right back role and impressed. Rose has also looked very promising on his four senior first team appearances so far but endured a difficult loan spell in the notoriously direct Histon side last season. Northampton provide the 19 year old with an excellent chance to play first team football at a good level. Rose played in Northampton’s friendly defeat by MK Dons at the weekend and signed on loan for the first month of the season today.
Northampton boss Stuart Gray told his club’s official website: “We have been looking for a right winger with pace and Romone has that. I was impressed with him and his attitude last weekend. It all happened rather quickly, but he got into his car and made the effort to drive to Milton Keynes and come and play for us as a trialist. He hadn't met the lads before the game, but he got on the pitch early and he showed glimpses of what he can do. He has been training with us this week and I am sure that has helped him settle in and prepare him for the month ahead.”
Elsewhere full back Peter Ramage has been talking about life at QPR to the Evening Standard newspaper. The right back endured a poor first half to last season and was dropped by Paulo Sousa when he first took over as manager. However the Geordie returned to the team at the tail end of the season and started to win the fans over with some committed and whole hearted displays.
Ramage said: “I found the move to London harder than I thought it would be. It was the first time in my life I'd ever had to do that. I missed my family and girlfriend, too, and that showed over the Christmas period when all the lads were going home to their families. I was going back to an empty flat, it was hard. And London is very different to Newcastle.
"Pre-season has gone well and I just can't wait to get started. Akos Buzsaky, Martin Rowlands, Patrick Agyemang and Rowan Vine are back and we missed them for the majority of last season. Now the manager has competition for places, which will please him. The top six is our target. We set that last season and fell short but this year we have a very good manager and coach in place and we are going to try to produce to achieve it. We are all ready to go and I hope we can maintain the high tempo we have set during pre-season because we all believe this can be a good year at QPR.”
In former QPR new today Scott Sinclair has joined Premiership side Wigan on a season long loan. Sinclair has become something of a perennial loan star with spells at QPR, Plymouth, Charlton and Birmingham all on a temporary basis since leaving Bristol Rovers for the Chelsea academy. New Wigan boss Roberto Martinez said: “Scott is a fantastic talent who can play up-front or wide. I'm delighted to have him join us.” Recently departed goalkeeper Lee Camp has been made vice captain at his new club Nottingham Forest.
Elsewhere in the Championship today the exodus from Newcastle United seems to be gathering pace with Sebastien Bassong set for Spurs and Habib Beye going to Hull City. Watford have been ordered to pay Carlisle £200k up from for striker Danny Graham. The Hornets will owe a further £300k depending on appearances and performance and a 15% sell on clause. Doncaster have moved to replace centre half Matt Mills following his move to Reading – they have signed Byron Webster from FK Siad Most in the Czech Republic and Mustapha Dumbuya from Grays. Leicester full back Joe Mattock is said to have handed in a transfer request amidst interest from West Brom and big spending Nottingham Forest . Finally 19 year old Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback has signed a one month loan deal at Ipswich.
