Hatters swoop to sign experienced front man

County manager Paul Simpson has made his second signing on the summer, after bringing in experienced striker Barry Conlon on a free transfer. Conlon was released by Chesterfield at the end of last season after the Spireites failed to make the League Two play-offs.

The Hatters were desperately short of firepower as they only had youngster Tom Fisher on their books who had any past experience of playing first team football and manager Simpson has begun to address that particular issue by signing the 31-year-old. Conlon has a wealth of experience at League Two level as he has played for Darlington, Bradford City, Grimsby Town and Chesterfield in recent years.

The hitman appears to have had problems in the past as he was dropped by Bradford City for a breach of club discipline and he was also allowed to leave Grimbsy and join Chesterfield on a free transfer as he had begun to be a 'disruptive influence' around the place according to Chairman John Fenty. He has also been sent off 9 times in his professional career with 2 of those red cards coming last season in consecutive matches which resulted in a 7 match ban.

Despite being bombed out of Grimsby, his time with the Spireites was fairly productive as he scored 7 goals in 18 appearances after joining them in January. Barry was released along with 11 other players at the end of last season and has now joined the Hatters.
