I’m as misty eyed about Hill as the next supporter and can’t even stand to read the good times thread for that reason.
However, let’s look at this analytically. Us fans, some ITKs and the board themselves have witnessed the following:
Poor results, performances, player fall outs, wasted budget, unpopular training sessions, set play embarrassment and more.
It couldn’t go on. The Wimbledon game sealed it for me, Plymouth poured salt on it and by Luton, I was numb.
Hill was in danger of irreparably damaging his legacy.
What happens next may not work either, but the board couldn’t let this scenario continue.
How they went about it is open to question, though. A public backing followed by a public flogging suggests right hand and left aren’t coordinated. |
Hard to disagree with any of that, or to escape the feeling that he was very much the architect of his own demise. If he and Mourinho had wanted to devise plans to get themselves sacked, neither could scarcely have hit upon a better one. | | | |

Spot on Chris.
I can't understand all these posters who are coming on here now saying what a ridiculous decision it was and how the board have cocked up and how Hill deserved the chance to take us back to league 1 after we had got relegated ........ blah di blah di blah. They weren't as vociferous when he was in the job, slagging off the fans, making weird team selections / substitutions, pissing the budget up the wall, bringing in players that were past it and added nothing to the squad.
Of course he's the best manager we've ever had, he gave us many many very happy days and we are all very grateful to him for that and I wish him (and Chris Beech) all the best for the future but FFS he'd not just lost his mojo - he'd lost the plot.
The Wimbledon game was also the last straw for me - since then I think the players body language suggests they too have had enough - it was becoming (if not already) toxic and needed a change.
I'm no advocate for the board but they're doing the best they can and I don't see anyone else queuing up to join them so get behind them - all these sly digs are just creating more negativity. | |
