Saints At West Ham Player Assessments

I would have to agree with all of that. Apart from calling Bertrand "Plastic"...he's been a damn good signing. ;-)

Brek Shea Latest To Be Linked With St Mary's Move
at 09:24:54

I am remaining cautiously optimistic until Monday. But if I am quite honest what StRipper says above matches pretty much what I think. Survival will be the aim this year followed by a sale so Kat can make some money. She has spent way less than she made. It follows both her history of business dealings and with what happens regularly in football. I will be very surprised if she is still in charge this time next year.

It was the scouts. We were linked with him last year or the year before. He went to stoke instead tho.

Saints Struggling To Bring In Further New Blood
at 02:23:19

If I was Koeman I would be peed off...he stated he wants two pacey wingers the moment je arrived and has so far got none. I know tadic plays on the wing but I don't think that's ideally where Koeman wants him to play. Fingers crossed this gets sorted before the window shuts.

Koeman Hints At Two Signings In Before Deadline
at 10:35:54

Hear alderweireld is going to Sunderland on a season long loan. Coupled with Koeman saying we're not looking at any more defenders and i think this deal was never really in the offing. Tho I would love to be wrong and for the player sightings to be true.

In Holland its being touted as a done deal that Clasie is coming to Saints with Morgan off to spurs. Pochettino says he wants to keep Townshend but who knows how much truth there is in that. And I don't buy the Cerci rumours at all! He didn't want to go to Everton fos they were too small a club for him apparently so can't see him coming to us.

Obviously a winger is a target...who knows who else Koeman is looking at.

Schneiderlin's Saints Journey Destroyed In An Hour !!!!
at 10:18:20

Still not sure he will stay...feel this is just macho posturing from the board. Something I am very pleased to see them do having thought about it some more. Another great season and, at 25/26, bigger clubs than spurts will come calling. So not sure what his problem is. Just needs a little patience. But then I suppose a year seems like a lifetime when you're 24 lol.

Anyway, 100% agree with you today Nick. Spot on.

Jay Rodriguez Offered New Five Year Deal
at 05:42:03

I suspect if indeed there has been an offer of a new contract then its Jay's agent who has fed this one to the press to see what offers come in. If nothing better comes along then he can sign the new deal...but hey, look, nows the best time to try to buy him Liverpool or spurs before he signs the new deal and his price rockets! Is probably his agents thinking.

With Cork...well, if anything can be implied from the friendly just played (and it maybe that nothing can) then it looks like RK intends to play with only one holding MF player. If Schneiderlin stays (which I still don't think he will) then we have him, wanyama and cork all competing for one place. That potentially blocks progress from the academy and means at least two quality players are left twiddling their thumbs every week. I can't see that being allowed to happen. With spider's future uncertain and wanyama away, I don't think RK has had time yet to assess which two he wants to keep for that position. If spider leaves I suspect cork will be,offered a new deal. If he stays then it could be a straight fight between wanyama and cork to see who offers the best competition for spiders place. Hence the delay.

as for fonte...i suspect given he is in his 30's and if a suitable replacement exists in the group already or can be brought in who is younger then I think the club might listen to offers.

Interesting to see sharp playing as one of the CAM roles. New direction for him do you think?

finally, RK says an LB and a couple of wingers are currently the main targets. Make of that what you will.

Lambert To Liverpool ! Usually This Would Be Good Business !
at 10:50:23

Sorry to see Rickie go. Hoped he would see out his career with us. But come on...cant begrudge the man this move. Its the final step (perhaps) in the fairytale rise of Rickie Lambert. Good luck Rickie. You will be missed.

I don't think he will the last to go either. Lets see what happens with the money that comes in...oh and smart money is on Koeman now.

Saints Sack Dodd And Williams But Why Is This Worthy Of A Daily Mail Headline ?
at 11:16:52

I agree with you Nick. You wouldn't have thought this was big national news. Ashton makes it sound like they 'are' the academy and now it's all over bar the shouting.

feel sorry for Dodd and willo...good servants...but its not like they were sacked half way through the season. And in any other job if the club wants to go in a different direction then best to,part ways. Ridiculous fuss.

although I have to ask nick would your reaction have been the same if cortese had fired them?

Brady...at the time Mayuka joined us he was considered a massive coup by a number of football jurno's outside the UK. Like Wanayama and Ramirez many had him down for moves to big clubs after his performances in the African Nations Cup. Half of them seemed insulted that he went to us actually lol. As it happens its not yet worked out. And everything has gone quiet about him. Who knows why. Maybe he simply isn't good enough. Maybe he can't settle in England. Maybe he can't adjust to the English game. He wouldn't be the first. But I do think that one day he will go somewhere and be a big success. Not a,world beater I suppose, but he won't be screwing lids on jars of beetroot either. ;-)

Time To Hammer Home A Good Start
at 10:56:35

Nick, well, maybe sound investment was the wrong phrase cos I concede we could well sell him for less than we paid for him. I still believe it was a sensible gamble tho...he is one of the most highly rated young players in the world and has plenty of time to improve. And 3.5mil is not much of a loss considering the sort of money we are throwing around now. Personally I am more worried about Osvaldo. Now that would be a lot to throw away if he doesn't score goals. But then...i suppose that's the gamble isn't it? We could spend 15mil on 15 lower league strikers hoping to find the next Rickie Lambert and still lose a boat load of cash.

fair point about City.

Actually Nick, not saying your wrong about Saints here in what is a pretty good article but have to say that time and time again its those who set unrealistic goals and never believe they will fail because they have total confidence in their abilities and do not succumb to sentiment who frequently become the most successful. Just sayin.

oh and btw, Mayuka was a sound investment. 3.5mil is peanuts in todays football. I personally believe he will be worth 3 times that at least in a couple of years. Maybe not for us unfortunately. Oh well...

And Osvaldo is NOT too similar to,Rickie to play alongside him. Just wait and see. Not saying he won't replace Rickie. I am sure he will many times. But they certainly can play together quite comfortably. And as for not spending 15mil on a player just to leave him on the bench - we paid 12mil for Gaston and he spends most of the time on the bench. New world at Saints mate.

Player Review 12/13 - Guly
at 12:49:23

I have never understood the Guly haters. He has a bit of class and a bit of vision. He does what's asked of him and doesn't complain. He is a real team player and can play in a variety of positions. Is he quality enough to start every game in the prem? Maybe not but he is good cover to have in the squad. We do need depth after all.

He does look lazy sometimes and he can't seem to defend for toffee...but why should he be good at defending? He's a striker for pete's sake.

If he does stick around for next season I can't see him playing much; but if and when he does come on I hope he makes those boo-boys eat their words.

Give the lad a break.

Mayuka Is Back But Is It The Beginning Or The End ?
at 08:46:31

Mayuka has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world and he can play on the left or right wing. Where he has played both at club level and international...although yes, he prefers playing as a striker.

He was preferred to sharp because sharp is not half the player people were saying Mayuka is. And not as versatile as they were saying Mayuka is. And given the 433 thing it's obvious that Mayuka is more suited to that system than sharp.

At least on paper and according to football "experts" the world over.

I don't know why he hasn't lived up to potential. Maybe he is finding the prem a different propersition to the Swiss league or internationals. Maybe Adkins just didnt know how to get the best out of him. perhaps adkiks prefered Guly!?!

At 22 he has time to adjust. I still think he will go on to be a world beater...but it may not be with us. He is bound to be rusty and lacking in confidence after sitting on the bench for so long and then having some unimpressive games for his country. And knowing some of the idiots who call themselves saints fans they'll start getting on his back and I wouldn't be surprised if he achieves his dreams later, elsewhere.

But he was bought because he is potentially a real gem of a player and fits the system Cortese and reed want to use. There is no mystery or conspiracy at all.

My advice...get off his case.
