Why do we need a new defensive midfielder, we have Romeu, we have Diallo, we have £30 million to spend on a striker so that is in hand.
You can talk about never learning when the transfer window closes, but until then surely we should give the club a chance to sort it out.

We played half last season without Ings and Bertrand anyway, either due to injury or sulking, so things would inevitably change.Almost certainly Ings will pull up injured again at some point anyway.
Yes we do need another CB (hopefully the big Austrian will cover that) as Vestergaard is also now looking sulky, and his non Gazelle like pace has left us exposed at the back several times.
Why not look to the Championship for a striker, (the Blackburn player for one)....never forget Ricky Lambert came from Bristol Rovers overweight and slowish, but became a great premiership and England player.I would also like to see Stuart Armstrong played up front, his skill would terrorise a lot of defences.
Strangely (for me) I have a reasonably good feeling about the coming season, even if it's just the fact that a couple of sulkers have been removed from the squad.

Seriously? If you go to 3 week Summer tournament you need two players for every position. We don't have that for a 9 month PL season.
We have one player to cover 2 CM positions. As we saw last season if we get injuries we end up having to play Armstrong there which weakens us in two positions. |  |

Now Ings has gone, we now have the full eleven (ok 9 as JWP and Vest just are adequate) starting places that could/should be improved on. That’s if we have any ambitions to be a top 10 club again. | |

We've also got Smallbone when he's fit. Ralph obviously reckons Armstrong can do a job there. Probably better for the counter attacking that we've been working on pre-season. No. 10 is the position where we've got most cover so we don't lose a lot by moving Armstrong back & he supposedly prefers a more central position anyway. | |

As it stands we're not signing a first choice CB and CM and from Ralph's comments earlier in the week he would ideally like a player who could cover both positions to improve the squad. Makes sense to me if they can find such a player. Ings replacement has to be priority #1 though. Of course the situation changes if Vest goes. I also wonder if we end up with a cash surplus whether a keeper becomes a priority of we can move 1 out. |  | | |
