West Ham game Matchday Thread on 18:06 - Sep 11 with 1143 views | SonicBoom | I thought we lacked ambition until the last ten. Not enough bodies forwards leaving Armstrong isolated. Djenpo has had some flack and again was sloppy in possession but he worked very hard and helped out defensively. Redmond..Well. Yet another game where he dithered, took the easy route backwards and sideways every time and showed his lack of control when presented with chances. He is literally no better now than when he arrived. Some good performances though. Stephens concentrated, Perraud was solid, Salisbury surprised me, Diallo added something when he came on and Broja showed them what strength, touch and pace can do. He surely must start. He won't be here long, might as well use him all we can.

Early days but he’ll see what happened to Abrahams and might be tempted to stay full time. I’d hope Chelsea would be up for a low ish price deal with a realistic buy back price. I think we did something similar with Bertrand in the Jan window while he was on loan still. Anyway maybe trying to make something out of nothing and he still hasn’t stared yet…

West Ham game Matchday Thread on 19:20 - Sep 11 with 1014 views | dirk_doone | Back from the game. Broja was superb. Livramento, Stephens and Salisu were also outstanding. It was great to see McCarthy get his first clean sheet for 9 months too. I don't think any Saints' central defenders have contained Antonio quite as well as Stephens and Salisu did today. It looked as though we were playing for a draw. We hardly got out of our own half for long spells in the second half and didn't seem to want to. Only Broja and Livramento hadn't read the script. I guess they still have the Chelsea mentality of going all out to win games. Pity Broja didn't get the goal he deserved but he will score plenty. [Post edited 11 Sep 2021 19:25]

Me too and that’s a good assessment The defence was very good today, not often that is said and McCarthy made a great save Broja showed just what we lack, driving forward with every chance strong quick he has to start Djenepo wasted chance after chance to provide a killer pass and Redmond was back to his stop slow it down, turn round old self Tella should have come on for him A good point but we deserved 3

Pretty much the way I saw it. Saints played more compact but it worked to nullify West Ham and any attacks. Some fans were getting frustrated that we weren't attacking freely towards the end, but had we done that, like last year, we would have probably left a gap and lost the game. The defence is much better and that's a real positive. The goals will come with Broja and the others. Quietly optimistic.

Livramento is brilliant at all aspects of the right wingback postion, including defence, but like most people I'd like to see Walker-Peters at right back and Livramento pushed up to right midfield so he can provide Broja with the ammunition. That pairing of Livramento and Broja up front would be devastating.

Yep, dilemma for both managers, go more attacking but risk losing the defensive shape. It wasn't lack of ambition simply pragmatism. On balance Ralph got it right today, Broja very nearly the master stroke. I reckon KWP will be back in the side soon but the defensive display from the whole side was very good. Yep, but particularly for us, we often concede late in the game, you can see that we are trying to stop the goals going in and it's understandable why we are trying to tighten it up. Broja looks superb and we should definitely move Livramento further up field. [Post edited 11 Sep 2021 20:16]

West Ham game Matchday Thread on 20:32 - Sep 11 with 902 views | Number_58 | The entire defence was excellent today, but in a game where players on both sides sometimes seemed incapable of passing the ball five yards, I thought Jack Stephens' passing was superb. He opened up West Ham a couple of times today and it's an attribute we should utilise more often.
West Ham game Matchday Thread on 20:34 - Sep 11 with 891 views | ElijahK | Personally I would’ve taken a point before KO, as it only feels worse as we’ve not won a game yet and could’ve won this one, although I do think a draw was a fair result. But still hopefully we can get our first win against Wolves, (or maybe Man City, although I’ve gotta be realistic as well as optimistic, although it shouldn’t be like this in the first place!). But I thought our defence (including Stephens and McCarthy) were great today and did show that they can defend as a PL team should. And with Ralph well I didn’t see anything he could’ve solved/was at fault for, other than playing Djenpo who was just rubbish! I mean why we didn’t play Tella over him, or swap Redmond and him round and start Roja or Adams, or even send Livermento up to midfield and play Walker-Peters instead of Djenpo. Still other than that, he did a pretty decent performance in my opinion

This It’s frustrating as we don’t have a stand out RM it seems so obvious

Agreed, KWP and Tino on the right with Broja and Armstrong up front would frighten most teams

Maybe RH is payed millions a year because he knows better than us fans? I didn’t fancy the defense either but had resigned myself that the manager had set out his stall and isn’t going to bend. Maybe it’s a broken clock thing but let’s hope it has legs and there are melt downs in the summer when Stephens is linked with Leicester or Villa!

This appears to be the opinion of everyone. Can someone arrange a flash mob to go to the training ground and just ask he tries it in training and report back on whether it worked or not?
