Kicks off next month with the news that Cummins is likely out of the first test and possibly most/all of the series. That helps.

Even as a Zak supporter, that was a wild shot in a first over of an Ashes test.

Starc was certainly getting that ball to move off the seam mind

Looks like I chose the wrong morning to get up early. Not a good start at all.

Get to lunch just 3 wickets down then it will be an even morning

280/300 and we are in the game here .

You called it right.

4 down is definitely Aussie’s session but we’re not out of it.

Decision now is whether to stay up.

Just woke up.

Seen the dismissals. Starc is flying.

Usual loose shot from Crawley puts us on the back foot immediately.

But despite the score Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson and Carse, we have a chance.

i think if we get less than 300, we will struggle. Can Starc pick up an injury to keep him out of the series !!

Didn’t expect to be batting when I woke up.

Not a great start for us but Brook has played some shots regardless. Good 50 in the circumstances.

Starc - high quality as expected. What a stadium, impressive.

Ponting taking the piss out of Langer on Comms was funny - until Stokes got out.

And then Brook throws it away with a nothing shot, gloving it behind…..FFS, vice captain, myRs

Unless we bowl ridiculously well we've thrown away the series within the first 35 overs

Absolutely fuming

All out for less than 200 before tea.. Starc a 7 for.... Brook again deciding to fcuk it up like he did in the last India test

Know the old adage can't judge a wicket until both teams bat on it... but how the fcuk can we loose the ashes again in less than 2 sessions...

Waste of getting up early

Only Duckett , Root and Pope got good balls the rest just threw it away

This isn't a good Aussie bowling attack either

Don't need to be a good attack the dismiss this shower... 5 wickets in 4 overs!!!

Test cricket my @rse... but hey we scored at over 5 an over so bazball is working

FFS.. 1st day of a test, you win the tosd and decide to bat... so knuckle down get in and put pressure on an obvious weaken attack.... oh not us ....

5 wickets in 24 balls...

Archer’s been in the gym, looks like he’s added to his shoulders considerably.

Got to use the new ball on the top order. Like the combination of Atkinson and Archer with Wood to follow.

2 more quick wickets and the pressure shifts.

That one on the elbow to Smith was a beauty - like Langer in 2005, where the bruising came out live on the big screen at Lords.

Might even stop some of his shuffling…..

Absolutely brain-dead batting again. Why just throw your wicket away, this is a test match. I think we need a change from Baz ball.

I agree 100% , it is a five day game so plenty of time to bat for a minimum of 80/90 overs which even at just 3 an over is 240/270 in a day & puts any team in the game.
Instead we go after the new ball with predictable results & only batted 32.5 overs , whatever happened to the openers seeing off the new ball to protect those further down the order?
The worst thing about this style of cricket is that a 5 day test played in perfect weather has virtually no chance of making it to day 5 & at this rate even day 4 is looking highly unlikely.

And now our 2 quicks who are liable to break down and miss the series are gonna have to bowl for 2 days. Just dumb cricket.

Rangers flag and shirt spotted in the front row.
Last 4 wickets were a disgrace, especially in the situation. Credit Starc for the top order bowling, brilliant. England bowling well but haven't gotten their rewards, yet.

Although we are bowling pretty well it looks a fraction short and missing the edge

Need them at least 5 down by the close if we have any chance if getting back into this
