Kind of spoils it when the ball is halfway down the pitch and the comms is screaming "THAT'S OUT" I know the Oz comms is insufferable, but it has to better than that

I tried matching it up with TMS at one point, but TMS was so far ahead it just wouldn't work. On this bowling attack, they seem to have got it right with an attack made up of 5 seamers - it has allowed us to really maintain that pressure by having bowlers bowl short sharp high-speed spells, not giving the batters a break. It's a brutal attack no question. And there's me thinking a couple of years ago that it will take a long time to replace Jimmy and Broad. They will misfire for periods no question and pick injuries etc, but god today was pure brutality with a soupcon of guile.

Clearly you need to handle Wood and Archer carefully (and Stokes needs to manage himself too, to an extent) but Carse has really stepped up and Atkinson is a lovely cricketer, even if he is Surrey. So thankfully we're not missing Anderson and Broad too much really.

In the words of a song from Frozen.”Let it go.” Where would we be without Pope’s knock today? They’re playing for England not Surrey,or Yorkshire.

There’s definitely a rivalry between the two counties, and I can understand it in matches between the two,but once they put on an England shirt they’re all the same to me.Even those Yorkshire b@stards.
| Ashes thread on 11:25 - Nov 21 with 1478 views | GaryBannister86 | What do we think from here? Apparently the track does tend to flatten out, but it only going to be the start of Day 2 (hopefully) we bat. I'd like a 350 lead to defend but I am not quite sure how we are going to get there. I guess because of the potential flattening out we are hardly going to hang around. Should be a cracking Test, regardless. If you told me this time yesterday we would take 9 Aussie wickets on the first day I would have been ecstatic. Naturally, we'd have lost 10 in the first place, but I probably would have been less surprised by that! Reminds me of the 90s tours when you would wake up for the last session and see Gooch and Athers still batting and think we must have turned it around with a 200 run opening partnership, then discovered we were actually bowled out for 100 and following on :-) | | | |

India were bowled out for 150 on the first day at Perth last year then knocked over seven of the Aussies before the end of the day. Batting did seem to improve after that and India declared at 487/6 in their second innings and won the match by 295 runs. So if we can get 400 in the second innings then we've got a good chance. But if we set the Aussies less than 200 to win we're probably toast. https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-vs-india-2024-25-1426547/australia

I was within a whisker of doing the same. I had read it started Friday so put two and two together and made eight and thought it started tonight. Just happened to get an email that made me realise it was last night. But no, pretty dull day.

Whats annoyed me more is that the other cricket fan at work booked today off, that should have given me a clue. Just watched highlights looks a hell of a game

130/1 on Betfair. Seems unlikely, pitch would have to turn into a road.

Channel 7 is pretty good and there’s always a token Pom in the comm box. Plus it’s free….just need a VPN and Aussie postcode plus a decent connection.

There were some poor batting choices and shots made by both sides, interspersed with some excellent bowling.

That was quite a remarkable result and game. I can’t see this one heading that way and anyone scoring above 400 if they bat like they did today. Did no one explain or check the size of the boundaries for example ? Schoolboy stuff.

Agreed. The batting is school boy level poor. This isn't cricket, it's just a whack and hope slog fest. I was under the impression that you had to make the bowler work for your wicket, not hand it to them. It'll all be done by day 3, it's almost like they have somewhere else to be and want to be home for tea. If these players don't want to play Test match they should play pyjama cricket instead. Not Test standard cricket IMHO. Really disappointing.

Sadly the rivalry pretty much currently mirrors QPR's with Chelscum and Middlesex are the Hoops though probably actually nearer to Orient in comparison.Still at least Middlesex have produced winning Ashes captains in Australia since Bodyline the Brown Cappers last winner Down Under nearly had The Aussies leaving The Empire.
