| Out of left field… on 10:04 - Nov 12 with 2469 views | DorsetIan | Unbelievably that he should even be in the frame. Check out his early managerial career - it wasn't exactly stella. And I don't think that international experience necessarily equips you for the challenges of the league, and especially in terms of the day to day man management of a squad. I'm not sure I would even be that excited if Southgate took the job. The brief is to find someone who has been successful in English league football. Not an easy brief to fill but it's pretty clear to me who it automatically rules out. I think I'm right in saying that Tonda has won more Championship games as a manager than Carsley. | |

| Out of left field… on 11:00 - Nov 12 with 2342 views | Ifonly | Carsley would follow the same pattern as Russel Martin. He believes in the same tippy-tappy, possession based tactics. These tactics work when you have good quality technical players for that level (Saints at championship level, England U21) but not when you don't. He'd suit many of the players in the squad at this level but if we ever got promoted it would be another dead end in the PL. What we need instead is a manager with a style that would work for us in the PL too, which means a style that works with cheap players e.g. pressing or counter attacking or physical etc. | | | |

That is an impossible task surely? Brendan Rodgers and maybe Steve Cooper aside. Instead of spending big and trying to get Sean Dyche in the summer, Sport Republic employed Will Still.

I'm not sure what you're saying is impossible. If you mean staying in the PL with cheap players (by PL standards) I'd say it is difficult but not impossible - just look at the smaller clubs that survive. We need a style that you can do it in the same way as e.g. B'mouth (intense work rate), Palace (counter attacking) or Brentford (set pieces). What's certain is that we can't do it trying to play Carsley style possession based football as you need Man City type players to do that.

| Out of left field… on 12:12 - Nov 12 with 2153 views | davidargyll | Not sure where others get their opinions about his managerial style from but this from Google: “Lee Carsley's management style is characterized by a facilitative, player-empowering approach that emphasizes positional freedom and adaptability, rather than strict dictation. He builds a foundation with a clear structure but encourages players to problem-solve and make decisions on the pitch, leading to fluid formations and purposeful, attacking football. His style is also noted for being adaptable to different players and groups, focusing on the manager as a facilitator and a diligent preparer. “ Doesn't sound too bad to me Of course he might have written it himself… | | | |

Just from watching the U21s under him, or when he was England boss, you can see the emphasis on possession and short passing, playing out from the back etc. But don't take my word for it.... https://www.beinsports.com/en-nz/football/uefa-nations-league/articles/carsley-p as it says "England have looked to dominate possession under Lee Carsley". In Carsley's own words: "We have tried to adapt and move on the style, the way that we play, the control, the amount of possession we have..." (note: "control" means not letting the opposition have the ball). The quote you put up just means he likes to give the players some freedom and responsibility for their shape. Again, that can work well with high quality players but might not work so well with our bunch of mediocre youngsters who are inexperienced for the level (3rd youngest in the league).

'Weird' to stick with a winning manager for a few more games. If you like. I'm sick of all the failures this bunch have appointed in recent years, and in no rush to swap a winner for another loser.

‘What we need instead is a manager with a style that would work for us in the PL too’ That’s what’s I’m on about. The Sunderland manager may survive the season but I expect Farke and Parker to be gone.

They appointed him to manage the reserves. It's their first team appointments that have been all over the place. You may be right. But even one more game against Jones is going to teach us an awful lot about Tonda and his team. If he gets the Charlton game you can put your mortgage betting against the win - guaranteed money for you, as you seem so convinced you know the result in advance.

I can imagine Jones getting his Charlton boys right up for it whilst hungry eyes plays 5 at the back with Bazanu and we stroll round like we own the valley and get a good tonking.
