Interesting. The debate is of course on what the main drivers are for this fall.

Should the Tories be credited for getting tougher on entry criteria after the disaster of the Boriswave? Or is the well-publicised British public's opposition and open hostility to many aspects to imiigration from asylum hotels to cultural dilution finally having an effect?

I suppose it depends on the demographic of the group.

It's made up of economic migrants and students.

Losing students is an negative issue overall has they are helping prop up FE as they're a good income generators.

As for the enconmic migrants, we'd need to know what kinds of roles they were filling.

It's only a 31% fall in people arriving. Still almost 900,000. Nearly 700,000 have left. I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown of who they are.

The other angle is that reports today state that 44% of immigrants are now asylum seekers. The percentage is probably actually slightly higher because there has been a recent further fall in legal migration that hasn't been factored into the overall calculation.

Yes, the BBC report is a mixture of selected facts and politics, journalism is dying.

At least, the Home Office deported the 2nd "hokey-cokey" channel crosser today - the one who returned on Nov 8th after a previous one-in-one-out removal. I wonder if they crossed his palm with silver.

I’d rather we encourage our young uns to do the dirty but vital work of carers
Sadly , they don’t seem to want
It would affect their mental health for sure as it’s a tough job and too many of ours are entitled shallow and lazy

Spot on.

Despite the big fall in net migration, the number arriving was still 900,000 which is an enormous figure.
109,000 more Brits left than arrived, could that a flight of the rich, brain drain or pensioners bailing out to sunnier climes?
Less EU citizens coming here to work, it will be interesting to see the breakdown of who is arriv8ng and from where and the SPLY comparison .

I've seen some figures, for which I claim no accuracy, that only about 10% of those arriving are doing so with work visas. The rest are students, dependents, refugees and similar.

They're just unsustainable numbers, and make a mockery of claims that we need high immigration to support pensioners. If all 900,000 were here to work then maybe that argument would hold water, but we all know that they're not, even if some prefer not to admit it.

Carers and many others should be paid a lot more.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Talking on the radio earlier on this issue , and a talking head on these matters suggested Milan and Dubai are now the go to places for our entrepreneurs and go getters

Dubai for the tax breaks and Milan for the culture and climate .

Cannot been to either places myself so cannot comment on the attractions there .

I certainly agree that care work as a profession is hugely undervalued within society, especially with an ageing population.

The problem we've got is that everyone can make a case for a particular job being "undervalued", but as basic wages rise everything is getting compressed. You can earn almost as much pushing trolleys around in Tesco as you can in a fairly responsible administrative post.

That has become a problem and has gone a long way towards increasing inflation and dragging relative pay in a downward direction. Skills and expertise are barely valued any more. Years of training and experience don't pay much more than a cleaning job.

After all that fuss about criminals being wrongly released last month, a Home Office whistleblower has given Rupert Lowe a figure of foreign criminals who absconded before they could be deported and are currently at large....

736

Rapists, murderers, paedos ? The Home Office has also deliberately lied to Parliament about it.

Sackings are not enough - it's a national scandal - prosecutions must follow.

Going back to Dr W's important point about emigration numbers and demography, it seems that a large proportion of those leaving are younger people.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/11/27/exodus-as-young-workers-flee-hig

The worry is that many of our brightest and best educated 20 to 30 years olds are leaving and being replaced with low-skilled immigrants.

Staggering figures on the BBC reporting news outlets that , illegals claiming costs off the Home Office to see a GP by taxi , paid for by the taxpayer of course , the round trip of 250 miles will cost £ 600 to see a Doctor .

Try and see my GP at Primary Clinic and even follow up treatment at NPT Hospital is a never ending series of cancelleded appointments and long waiting lists , sorry mush .

The Government will stop the freebies from February 2026 though , not tomorrow .

Some of us are really being taken for mugs if we believe in any Politician these days .

They are all concerned above all of keeping their seats in the cosy Westminster bubble

Didn’t join our plod int the late 70s and only did out of desperation really as things weren’t good in my life
I had an aunt who’d moved to Trois Riviers, Qc and , being a French speaker, would have worked for her husband
My wife of the day pulled out
It’s why I still have an effigy of her on my mind on Nov 5th
