I doubt he would have been recruited if Wilcox had not left.
Given that Wilcox was not directly replaced, I imagine that Ankersen / Kraft / Parsons / Bitcon / Brent (delete whichever idiot you see fit) thought that Lallana might somehow fill a void left by Wilcox.
