A cracking day, with a very dear departed Villa friend of mine (whose other half was a Skate, who was really pleased that he had managed to get a ticket for her)
| Can anyone remember Saints scoring 5 in the first half before today? on 16:33 - Nov 23 with 1209 views | LondonSaint76 | Apart from the Villa game already mentioned the only other game I can think of is the 9-3 win over Wolves at The Dell in September 1965. The score at HT was 5-2 and amazingly all 5 second half goals were scored by the 60th minute with the last 30 minutes producing no more goals. | |

Mane fastest ever hat trick Long 2 Pelle with the 2nd half goal, having already had one chalked off incorrectly for offside in the first half. ....and who did we score 5 second half goals against ?

Don't remind me of those last 30 minutes. We spent all of them singing, "We want 10". The funny thing is, that was a very good Wolves team. They'd won their previous two games 4-0 and 4-1, and won all of their next four games 3-0. They were one of our main promotion rivals. They beat Pompey 8-2 that same season. I was in the Fratton End with Dougal's mob later that season to see us beat them 5-2, but it should have been 17. Can you imagine this season if we beat a team 9-3 and then they beat Pompey 8-2? I did say to my daughter that the one thing I’d have changed from Saturday’s 5-1 win was the opposition, I just wish it had been Portsmouth away. Without getting carried away, who knows where we can go from here - what difference a bit of confidence makes to players who a few weeks ago appeared to just be going through the motions. As fantastic as those 9 goals must have been, I can just imagine the frustration when that elusive 10th goal didn’t materialise, especially after Saints scored 4 in the first 15 minutes of the second half. A bizarre afternoon all round - and if memory serves me correctly, didn’t Saints go and sign the Wolves keeper that let in those 9 goals not that long afterwards?
