1 season in the first team for Bournemouth and 37 games in the Premier League for the 3rd worse defence and suddenly he is an £18 million keeper !!!

I’m a bit baffled by it; I don’t think he’s that good. Plenty of the goals Boscombe conceded I thought he should have saved.

I thought they would have been better off with either Boruc or Begovic.

Poll: Does anybody think Saints can get promoted this season?

Aside from the contemptuous aspect, the fct is there is already a side called Bournemouth FC, they were founded in 1875 and so are the original club carrying the town's name, they also play in red but are nicknamed the Poppies

The side now called AFC Bournemouth were formed as Boscombe FC in 1899, up until the first world war The Poppies were the senior side in the town.

In 1920 the Cherries moved to the Southern League and to make them more representative of the town they changed the name to Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic Football Club in 1923 and got elected to the expanded football league.

Now you are stating to see why some in Bournemouth refer to them as Boscombe.

In 1971 the Cherries changed their name again this time to AFC Bournemouth.

So technically they are stealing the name Bournemouth, from the Poppies , of course most in the town support the Cherries and the Poppies have been a mainstay of the Hampshire and Wessex leagues throughout their history.

Now you know why Pat refers to them as Boscombe as till the early 70's tat was essentially what they were called, until they got ideas above their station spent money to try and get in Div 2 and ended up struggling financially for 30 years or so because of it.

A lot of people of my age and older refer to them as Boscombe.

I have had the misfortune of watching them a fair bit back in the day (dragged along by my Dad...) and a regular chant from their hordes behind the goal was “BOSCOMBE!! BACK OF THE NET!!!!” (repeat until fade...)
