| Not many can play for 90 mins. ? 13:20 - Feb 9 with 715 views | GRIM | Tonda has made a very strange admittance that "We don't have many players that can play f full 90 mins". I find that very strange, pro footballers should all be able to play for 90 mins + the time added on. There will be exceptions if players are carrying an injury or coming back after a spell out, but there is no excuse for players not being fit enough. That would suggest that they are either not training hard enough or they are doing the wrong sort of training. Plus they are playing at least once a week sometimes twice a week so that alone should get them fit enough. But I think many of us have said for many months that our squad have not been fit enough, that's why we fall apart in 2nd half of games. | | | | |

In that case, it's really about strength rather than fitness i.e. they risk damaging muscles if they put them under strain for 90 mins in an all action league like the Championship. It's probably not about cardiovascular fitness. Some players are just more liable to tweaked hamstrings etc and you can't cure that by sending them on cross country runs. You need a long term plan of gradually building up muscle strength, particularly the ability to withstand stretching.

Tonda's words were "not many of them can play 90 mins". I appreciate that the likes of Stewart & Scienza's game time needs to be managed to protect them. He should have said a couple of them But it's a fact that the fitter you are the less likely you are to get muscle injuries.
