Here We Go Again ! Big Weekend Of Football Ahead For Southampton FC
Wednesday, 29th Mar 2023 18:13

The old cliches are once again out as we travel to East London to take on West ham United in which victory will be a big boost for either club and defeat for the other disastrous, although not quite yet a terminal blow.

It is a big weekend of football ahead and Saints could potentially pull out of the bottom 3 should they beat the Hammers up at the London stadium.

This will of course be a tough ask, but the truth is we are a different side than the one that slumped from defeat to defeat under Nathan Jones, the Hammers are not much better than us and they did little to change their position in January, Danny Ings being their only acquisition of note.

Plus there is trouble afoot in the camp with Declan Rice seemingly looking to run down his contract forcing West Ham to sell him this summer or risk letting him go for nothing next year.

This has not endeared him to some sections of West Ham's support who saw how easily he jumped ship from the Republic of Ireland after winning full caps for them but defecting to England because he had not played in a competitive game.

Born in Kingston On Thames in Chelsea country he was at the West London club before being released so is definitely not one of their own in that respect.

Likewise David Moyes is under fire after a poor season in the Premier League, although that can be tempered by their good run in the Europa Conference League, personally given the little chances these days of glory in the League or domestic cups I would take finishing 17th in the Premier and a good Europa Conference campaign.

Neither set of fans can contemplate anything other than a victory, although a draw would be a better result for Saints.

But before the two teams meet up on Sunday they have to sit back and pray whilst the other teams down in the bottom play.

Leeds are at Arsenal at 3pm on Saturday , Bournemouth host Fulham, Crystal Palace are at home to Leicester & Forest play Wolves all on the same day same time.

That means that some of our rivals have to pick up points so a win at the London Stadium would be a real boost and would take us out of the bottom 3 should Bournemouth fail to win and Leicester lose at Palace, although to be blunt I think it is a case of getting off the bottom and keeping as many of the teams above us in catching distance.

On Monday Everton host Tottenham Hotspur and there are not many games i want Spurs to win in the average season, but this is one of them, indeed if we can beat the Hammers we might not get out of the relegation zone on Sunday, but we could perceivably do so on goal difference Monday if Spurs hammer Everton.

So a big big weekend of football for Saints, we need to have some faith, base the team on what it has done under Ruben Selles and not Nathan Jones, ultimately Jones time at Saints may cost us dearly, but that day isn't quite here yet.

Can’t wait for this match!!! Hopefully they attack, we defend well and we counter the space. Never been to the stadium before either, so I’ll get to see if it’s as much of shithole as everyone says. Come on saints, let’s play well on a big day for this club and set the tone for these types of games until the end of the season.

I'd just like us to actually won a game. No lose by one, or come back to snatch a draw. Just an actual win. Imagine that.
