Given the defensive effort needed under Mackay, if there was a fitness problem could argue it stems from pre-season training. End of last season our players looked a tad jaded as well.

I've not seen anything that indicates fitness has been the problem so far.
Players breaking down? Muscle tears happen. Hel, a study a few years ago showed a lot of footballers hamstring issues were down to the seats in the sports cars. Henry's hamstring issues, from memory, were traced as being doing to his jaw not being aligned.

I think Ole's doing as good a job as he could at this moment in time. I think we'd have gone down under Mackay, the defensive bubble was bursting under him anyway - Liverpool, Southampton both games 3-0 down at half time.
It's also not a case of apples and oranges. Mackay had 2+ seasons to develop the squad; Ole has had one transfer window where generally not much happens. We know the squad isn't the squad Ole would necessarily want, there will be a fair bit of movement out of the club I'd assume.
Has Ole spent the money Mackay did? Nowhere near, from figures bandied about, around 1/10th of the amount. Of the players coming in, Daehli imo will be a star, Eikrem is a good passer. Jury out on Kenwyne so far, despite our defence today thought Cala had a good game.
Changing the style isn't going to take one game.
I think Mackay had hit his ceiling of what he could achieve with the club, the bubble bursting. Has Ole achieved what he can? Not as yet. If it means going down and rebuilding, so be it. I think Ole has a far bigger upside as a manager than Mackay. | |

Well, you say that but then look at the performances at Man Yoo and Man Citeh under Ole. Sure, lost the games as expected but were in the games for quite a long time. That was with passing the ball, keeping possession, looking to attack.

Can you not also make the argument that Tan's continued public undermining of Mackay was a significant factor in terms of those games, it's bound to have taken the edge off his commitment levels as he knew the sack was around the corner.
Quite apart from that, Liverpool away is a poor example to use as evidence of Mackay's approach starting to fail as they have consistently ripped teams apart at home this season, as we will probably witness first hand tomorrow. | | | |
