If they taught welsh through say sport then maybe lots more kids would enjoy it. It should be fun, of course, and not necessarily all about GCSE's. Its a miracle its survived at all. Many families did not pass the language on because they were told again and again that it held the kids back.
Thankfully today 26% of our kids are taught - at least partly - through welsh, and many more take it as an academic subject through english.
It was survived despite government sponsored open hostility, based on an intent to eradicate the language and impose their one size fits all version of Britishness.
Most countries in the world use 2 languages of course. It's quite normal after all.
