Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Rubbish, I know of 3 families on our development where a child has been sent home from school, had a test, was positive, guess what, nobody else in the household of 4 or 5 have.
Totally contradicts what you said.
So what makes you think that pubs and restaurants are more dangerous?
These were the figures before the opening of pubs took effect 14 15 17 19 26 12 13 8
Here are the figures shortly after 34 34 20 19 28 34 35
These were approx a month after 51 77 98 133 150 165
The increase is totally clear and has continued since. The figures remained low until pubs were opened. The facts speak for themselves.

I thought you'd been blaming it on returning holidaymakers? Whatever the numbers are the official line is pubs are responsible for 14% of new cases.
So I'll ask again, is allowing a 3 family bubble a good idea? Given that the virus is spreading more at home, if closing pubs is absolutely necessary how is a 3 family bubble a good thing, especially with the numbers being so high right now?
How is that following the science? How is that safeguarding people?

Returning holiday makers was a factor. Those people returned from abroad and went into pubs so both are a factor. That is the evidence that they gave to contact tracers when this started increasing. It is also a fact that in some areas mixing in households after people returning was a factor. Vaughan Gething in one of his press conferences outline how this had spread. Perhaps you would do well to listen.
As far as 3 houses mixing it certainly is a mistake as is allowing 4 from different households to sit together in pubs. Quite simply efforts to open up have largely been the reason for the increase. When Drakeford correctly insisted on a stay local policy some on here felt opening up was more important.
If you open up pubs then cases rise and this was the catalyst. Due to increased cases the spread occurred and wasnt helped by kids taking it into schools having come back from holidays abroad or students arriving from highly infected areas and spreading it through living in Halls and HMOs although that is far less than you try to say. Here is an example form Aberystwyth university and the rate of cases declined after
From the start of term to October 21 a total of 36 cases of Covid-19 in students have been recorded by the university, a spokesman said

So do you honestly think we could be in full lock down and stay within 5 miles of home for over a year?
I said we, not you.

Ithink we could have but then I also think we could have opened up shops and hospitality AND stayed local too. Maybe that was an answer? Close down Wind Street pubs and other places where many people gather, like Bigg Market in Newcastle.
The more places that could stay open, the more cash help could be given to those that had to shut. It'd also be easier to monitor the local pubs....and then close them down if they break the rules (until the pandemic is over if needed) and punish the punters who ignore rules too.
It still comes to that for me, we set rules that weren't enforced, people were obviously going to ignore them because we are selfish and stupid as a race!

One lovely parent of five in Swansea decided even though she's tested positive for covid still sent her brood to school , 3 school years have now had to close .

There is science .
If you're in a pub, no mask, you're on your 5th beer (1st in your case) and then you start shouting your mouth off, this carries on for a few hours, much more chance.
Grow up.
That’s not science. It’s a lazy stereotype.
Put the emotion down and start using that spongy mass of fat and protein in that cranial cavity of yours.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

You don't think people get more excited, let's use your word, emotional in a pub after beer. Imagine being in there with Dr P, you'd be doing your nut in wouldn't you, trying to get a word in edgeways. Speaking over each other, spraying saliva and germs from each louder point.
Of course there is science to suggest this is how an airborne virus can spread. The guard is lower in pubs, you might get so complacent you eat from the same bag of nuts or crisps, pick up the wrong pint, not wash your hands properly and handle everything around you, the same things everyone else is handling.
That's not hard to figure out is it.
All of a sudden now everyone has this vision of pubs being like Church congregations. Saw one guy on FB the other day talking about how his heart goes out to all the pub owners (which is a given, mine does, everyone's should) but then talking about the pubs he took his kids to in Cornwall and Tenby. 10 and 12 or whatever they are.
It's a bit different to pubs in general isn't it, those same pubs at different times of day could be anything other than orderly. That's why people want to go there, to have a few drinks. Get drunk.

Damage limitation? Do you think it's safe to spend a whole day in a house with possibly a dozen people of all ages?
It spreads more in people homes than anywhere else doesn't it? I wonder how many of those Christmas bubbles will involve alcohol too? Lots of hugging and kissing maybe?
Do you really think that's damage limiting or a potential disaster for grandparents?

The reality is that it isnt just places like Wind Street it that is is spreading. When you look at places that have been closed like Three Compasses in Clydach, Boss Brewery in Landore, White Swan on High Street, Noahs Yard in Uplands. I seem to remember Llangennech RFC in Llanelli and Drefach Cricket Club. These places are largely unaffected by the Wind Street or city trade. They chose to ignore rules and then make excuses. The Patti restauarant is another. Remember that with loads there. Scotia has been very quiet about the Boss Brewery one of the places he was praising. The Viiliers in Landore was shut down it was open during the first lockdown.
The reality is that you cant have both and that is being borne out now. The figures continually went down when we had places closed and have gone up ever since we opened up borders and pubs. That is a fact. It is still going up. We had record figures today again. We now have only 22 less deaths from the beginning of October in Swansea Bay Health Board than we did in the first wave and that is likely to be exceeded in the next few days. In fact, the only time it has gone down was following the lockdown.

That is not science, that is just a hypothetical situation, which proves nothing.
I think the Welsh government said more or less the same thing, and they were rightly called out on it.
At the end of the day, they shouldn't be closing down pubs without solid evidence.

So visiting places who were ignoring rules is not evidence. White Swan serving in the early hours when it should have been closed a few days ago. Old Havana visited on Beaujolais Day. Told to follow covid rules. Police went back later. Covid rules still not enforced. Clear evidence whether you like it or not.

That's not evidence, the question is show the science to prove it's spreading in the hospitality sector, just because a pub flouts the rules, doesn't mean it's spreading there.

There are a lot of businesses in the hospitality industry that have done absolutely everything they can to make their premises as safe as possible from covid. Spent a lot of money on it too. Social distancing measures, protective screens, table service, increased cleaning regimes etc. The huge majority of people who visit pubs and restaurants adhere to the measures. Should these businesses that are taking it seriously and applying all the measures be forced to close because you’re projecting your limited experience of some grotty 1970’s watering hole where everyone acts like it’s the Wild West as scientific fact as to how people behave in all pubs and restaurants?
The businesses that allow people to get drunk and act in a stupid manner should be closed and fined. You won’t hear an argument against that from me. The point is that the whole industry is being decimated by these stupid arbitrary decisions based on this lazy stereotype that everyone who visits a pub immediately starts boisterously singing and bellowing when most businesses and people who are frequenting them are doing exactly what they should be doing.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

If you look back at the end of August and beginning of September you will find that the cases that caused the hike were because of 3 things People bringing the virus back from holidays Then going to pubs and it spreading there People going to house parties.
Absolutely clear reasons at a time when schools were shut and students hadnt come. It has escalated ever since.

Again, those places broke the rules and deserved shutting down and the owners deserved heavy punishment.
The lack of consequences for rule breaking has been part of the problem. If Wind street was closed all the police used down there could have been visiting local pubs which shouldn't have been given warnings, caught bre=reaking the rules there should have been powers to close them down straight away. When people know there are few consequences they do as they please.
