I very much doubt these cases have come from people on holiday.

It is almost certainly been brought in by people who are here for absolutely essential reasons. Potentially even NHS Dr's / nurses.

We are too reliant on foreign labour, business and essentially connected to completely close our borders.

This is very different. PCR testing and genomic sequencing to find and contain the variant. Liverpool was lateral flow testing to reduce cases, this is nowhere near as accurate.

As long as you consider the LFD tests as those which find (largely asymptomatic) positives but don't define someone as negative they are pretty useful. If you speak to the Liverpool Director of Public Health, he will tell you they did a good job in helping taking levels in Liverpool down and out of Tier 4. Also if used twice a week are helping keep schools running for key worker and vulnerable kids and also allowing ongoing clinical degrees in Universities. I have to show I am negative to enter the campus.

What they are not good for is the frontline diagnostic test and all positives need qPCR confirmation.

We have picked up 18 cases in the last 2 months out of around 800 students and staff tested in the Vet School
