| Children of alcoholics week 11:17 - Feb 19 with 574 views | Catullus | I meant to post this sooner but forgot. This week, from the 14ht to the 21st is national Children of Alcoholics week. It's not a charity we hear very much about. It's not just for young people, it's for anybody who had an alcoholic parent, https://nacoa.org.uk/ My mother died a few years back, she was an alcoholic and had been for over 40 years. The first I knew about it I was around 7 years old, my parent had split up the year before. We had some family visit us from Bournemouth. I was playing hide and seek with my cousins, I went into my mums bedroom and climbed behind her dressing table. The space behind was full of carrier bags and I made a hell of a noise, it wasn't a good hiding place. Those bags were full of empty Gin bottles. I couldn't even begin to explain the problems that came over the next 30 years, I don't really want to try. But I was 36/37 years old befpre I dealt with it properly. It doesn't matter how old you are, if you have/had a parent who is/was alcoholic, look on the link above. | |
