SWANSEA CITY SUPPORTS INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, BIPHOBIA AND TRANSPH 11:44 - May 17 with 1522 viewsKeithHaynes

Today (May 17) marks International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia and is a day to celebrate diversity and to raise awareness of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTIQ+) people.

Swansea City is proud to stand with the LGBTQ community in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. for not just those attending football, but for our wider community as a whole.

Swansea City’s head of fan engagement was met by Swansea City Ladies’ representatives Stacey John-Davis, Natalie John-Davis and Gemma Bond, along with Carys Ingram from Swansea City’s supporter group, Proud Swans. The full discussion is highlighted in the above video.

Stacey, Natalie and Gemma praised the football community as an inclusive environment where they have never faced any discrimination or fallen victim to any hate crime. Stacey stated that football has allowed her to be who she is, and without it she would never have met her wife Natalie.

Gemma echoed their sentiments, saying; “Swansea City is an inclusive club and everyone is welcomed with open arms."

Swansea City is committed to eradicating hate crimes and discrimination of any form. Supporter group Proud Swans has a growing number of members who work closely with Swansea City in ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

Catherine Thomas, Swansea City's head of fan engagement, said: " Swansea City is a unique family club, and once you are a jack you are part of a wider footballing family and community.

"Swansea City has an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion working group and if any supporter wishes to have a discussion about this or any form of inclusion, they are welcome to do so by emailing Support@swanseacity.com."

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

They are, I've never seen any gays, bisexuals or trans people being bullied at the Swans. Have you?

If not, and there is no issue, why is the club jumping on every political bandwagon?

A quick question for you...
Do our Muslim supporters support gays, bisexuals and trans rights?
Are we excluding a minority (Muslims) from our football club by taking political stances that they can't go along with?

Just because they are supporting a day to highlight phobia against several groups why do you have to bring your right wing opinionated view into it? Where does the statement mention anything political?

You and your ilk are becoming very tiresome attacking anything that goes against your uber right wing views.

And before you start spouting lefties, lefties, lefties, I am not a fvcking lefty ok.

I am a fan of Swansea City, it is my club as much as anybody else.
The club is increasingly taking political stances, therefore they invite a response...Swansea City does not have the right to tell people how to think and not expect a response.

Are you sure you are not on the Left? I only ask because you always attack people on the right and not the Left...and you do seem particularly hard of thinking.

If you had read and understood what I wrote on this thread, then you would understand that far from arguing "uber right wing views" I am in fact arguing that football teams and sports clubs in general should keep their nose out of politics as it inevitably will exclude a portion of it's audience and supporters.

Do you want to have a go at addressing my question on whether we are excluding another minority (our Muslim supporters) by the club taking a stance on gay, bisexual and trans rights that they couldn't possibly support.
Go on give it a go, there is a brain in there you know and you can use it to think.

Where does it mention a certain political view?

The statement says the clubs supports the international day against certain phobias, phobias not political views.

It's about the club sticking up for certain groups of human beings not a political party.

Regarding isolating our muslim fans, I don't take too kindly to their views either, if they don't want to support a cause that our club is championing then it's upto them just as long as they don't attack it, like you have.

Btw I don't just attack uber right wingers I recently got on the back of a certain uber left winger recently but you probably chose not to take any notice.

So our club is not just a football club now but also an institution that champions political causes such as Trans rights...and you don't take too kindly to any supporters of ours who don't agree with the political cause the football club is championing....but they must remain silent in their opposition to said cause.

Hmmmm....

Somehow I don't think you would have the same views if, for example, the players were asked to kneel for a political movement that had arose as a reaction to the Muslim grooming gangs, whose website said that they were against multiculturalism and for ending Foreign Aid.
Would you?

I reckon you would have an awful lot to say about your club taking a political stance on such an issue wouldn't you.

Keep politics out of sport. It's that simple.

"Keep politics out of sport" was the sop the rugby boys like Gareth Edwards JPR JJ and others said in 1974.

Keep politics "out of our all white sport" they might have said . As simple people (JPR a qualified Doctor) all they wanted to do was play all white skined rugby with no black people allowed.

These people have never apologised.

Having said tht I do not know what many of the phobias I am not supoosed to discriminate agains actually mean.

It is a political statement to support homosexual, bisexual and trans rights.
It is a statement I support but not all of our supporters will support.
If you are a Muslim and you believe such things are haram then you could not possibly go along with the club on this.
Which, by extension, says to them 'you don't belong at this club.'

I feel it every time our team kneels for a Marxist organisation that supports defunding the police and violence on American streets.
I have not given the club anymore of my money as a result.

A FOOTBALL CLUB is for football fans to support their local football team.

It is not a "sop", it is wise.

All you are doing by bringing politics into places it doesn't belong is dividing people unnecessarily.

Swansea city is not your club and you do not speak for them. As an independant company they can stand for anything they like within the law. Effectively it is none of your business as you are simply a customer.

The policies will be determined by the COO and the US ownership and the SCST board member. You will have a minor interests if you are a member of the SCST. Although not a shareholder you can democratically infuence the "not for profit" group that does own shares. This "not for profit group " is providing good profit for London third paty agencies in recent times.

Presuambly this current policy , on these matters , is simply a support for laws set up by HM Governement. The activist seek to keep people "walking on eggshells" by changing the names of various minority groups. One FA executive out of touch with the latest definitions was foced to resign for not using the " people of colour" phrase and "unforgivably" had to go for saying "coloured people". He went saying "Its a fair cop I should have know better ". Everyone is walking on eggshells. i personally will never used the word 'Queer' even if I knew what it meant.

...you are of course correct, and we as the paying customers can choose to no longer pay.
The more "causes" Swansea City attaches itself to, the more of it's paying customers will make the choice not to pay.

Go woke go broke baby!

I notice that in kids sport, nobody(and most teams these days are diverse) is choosing to follow their Swansea City heroes and bend the knee for scum.

OK lets have a go at this. Hypothetially "Team SCFC".

"Team SCFC" supports the UK. it does this by paying taxes and following the laws set down by the ruling government. If the people of Scotland vote to leave the Union SCFC will wish them good luck. Team SCFC has no position on the re unification of Ireland. That is for the Irish to decide.

"Team SCFC" supports free market capitalisim and the laws within which they operate. The club will vigorusly object to 51% fan ownership should the Labour party come to power. Swansea s own fan group have come up well short and have been very difficult to deal with and "Team SCFC" could not even arrange mediation meetings with them.

"Team SCFC" took no position on Brexit although a no Brexit would have helped on player recruitement. "Team SCFC" did not want to alienate supporters given the roughly 50:50 split in polls. Steven Benda is a valued member of the club and does not want him to feel unwelcome in Swansea.

In general "Team SCFC" suports policies that help the club to propser such as low tax and rates. "Team SCFC" creates local jobs and supports local charities.

"Team SCFC" works closely with the SW constabulary who are good friends of the club. The clubs support for BLM was "off the record " a bit of an error of judgement by "Birchy" . This was rectified. The "taking of the knee" was a matter left to the players.

"Team SCFC" supports UK laws on minority groups. People who are against these laws can take them up with their local MP. People who demonstate against these laws are not welcome at "Team SCFC". Team SCFC will not require "people of faith" players to "rainbow up" in team colours. Any political logos such as the poppy will be optional.

I'm sorry, it was entertaining reading but completely missed the point.

Swansea City football club haven't offered opinions on any of these subjects, they have not championed any right-wing causes.
So it is easy for those on the Left to make out Politics in Sport is fine isn't it?
Very easy.

Like I say, the day our players kneel for the little girls who were raped by Muslim grooming gangs then you will have something akin to the BLM endorsement (for a whole YEAR) to compare with.

You and I know that is not going to happen.
If it ever did the majority of posters on this board would be squealing like stuck pigs.
That would be the kind of player protest that would ACTUALLY take guts...but our lads haven't got any clearly.

So, like education, teach/preach from both points of view or keep schtum.

"It's what people know about themselves inside that makes them afraid" - "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act" - "The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it"
