Personally,I am risk averse and tapping the ball sideways across the box for the sake of it freaks me out. I do not think we have the players to play as Martin wants. I think it is about cutting the cloth accordingly. Passing and possession also do not points bring as does not shooting at the goal given half a chance. Nobody can be successful without goals being scored and winning matches and that is what I want anyway. Nothing beats winning a game of anything. It really is all about the glory.

| Thoughts on RM's first week on 09:56 - Aug 17 with 345 views | Thrasher6 | After the early hype, the style of play against Sheff Utd didn't seem a lot different...but it's very early and I'm positive we will begin to see a style emerging soon. Need to see what Piroe can do so he needs a run....RM shouldn't be denying him (or us) this at least. What we all need is a little patience. The Martinez/Rodgers sides didn't immediately spring into life after a few matches. It evolved. I'm pretty sure we have the right man in RM....and enough young talent...to get there. | |

One thing that should be clear is that young Cullen is not good enough at this level. He is anonymous and blown away in every game . Piroe and Whittaker for me. They could possibly be a good combo but we will see. The most positive aspect has been Benda and it grates that this lad was seen as not good enough to challenge Woody for the number 1 spot. Looking at Benda,we have a keeper who will get stuck in and will take command. We 'll see if he's a decent shot stopper but surely he is a more solid keeper.

This was what a lot of our fan base were crying out for last season. We certainly didn’t pass the ball sideways in our box or play triangles with the keeper under Cooper. The Sheffield United game was a big step forward from Blackburn, where we were a shambles at the back, in my opinion. Given how long Martin has been here and the lack of pre season, we’re a lot further down the road than I expected. That being said, the line up still had a very experimental feel about it and the biggest challenge is going to be creating and finishing chances.
