Lateral Flow tests are about 70-90% accurate. a qPCR over 98%. Assuming there is not error in taking samples or processing. As the lateral flow is capturing viral antigen by an antibody bound to the test strip, the likelihood of a cross-reaction to give a false positive is much greater than the specificity of the three gene sequences used in the qPCR. False negatives here suggest a either a problem in the primer or probe sequences being wrong, or y a reagent issue either in RNA isolation or in the PCR reaction. Sounds like some corner cutting on controls, as anyone running PCR should pick up an issue on the control samples. | | | |
