Behind closed doors friendly : Swansea City 2 Brentford B 2 14:43 - Dec 7 with 1018 viewsKeithHaynes

Official site report

Penalties from Liam Walsh and Michael Obafemi saw a Swansea City XI draw 2-2 with Brentford B in a friendly at Fairwood.

Russell Martin used the game to give a number of his squad some valuable game-time, with each player featuring for the full 90 minutes.

The Swans got off to a rapid start in a game played largely in treacherous conditions, with Liam Cullen brought down in the box by former Swans youngster Nathan Shepperd with just 53 seconds gone. Walsh stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from 12 yards.

Morgan Whittaker went close to doubling the lead a minute later, only to be denied by Shepperd. The visitors were on level terms after 11 minutes through former Rangers striker Nathan Young-Coombes, who fired home from close range. Cullen and Whittaker tested the gloves of Shepperd once more, while Brandon Cooper’s overhead kick was comfortably tested the Bees keeper in the last real action of the first half.

Walsh scores for the swans

Brentford took the lead through Young-Coombes in the 58th minute, but the Swans were not to be denied as Obafemi blasted home a penalty after Whittaker was hauled down in the box with ten minutes left.

I read somewhere it's a friendly arranged so that our non playing squad players can have some game time.

Yeh both our goals from penalties - we get them at this level apparently - Walsh & Obafemi scored them.

Reported that the conditions were bad, but you would expect a squad team to be able to score from open play.

Moragn Whittaker and Obafemi are under intense scrutiny Liam Cullen is not getting for example. It could be be that their personal characters are relaxed and easy going and this is a management technique to get them fired up and performing.

Guehi came over as a very eloquent a nice relaxed sort of character but was a different character with the shirt on.

Wise sage since Toshack era
