| Australian Open Matchday (fortnight) Thread 21:30 - Jan 16 with 3471 views | Dr_Parnassus | Winner: Djokovic officially now ruled out of the tournament opening the door for both Medvedev and Zverev to pick up the title. Outside of those two, it looks tough to make a case for anyone else. Ones to watch: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Both Sinner and Alcaraz have won the Next Gen tournaments in recent years but couldn’t be more opposite. Sinner as the skinny Italian with perfect technique and Alcaraz the strong as an ox Rafa clone. Both could go deep in the tournament. Long shot: Aslan Karatsev. One off the Russian production line but with some Spanish influences in his game. The Russian game has been based on power in recent years but Karatsev mixes power with insane angle and touch, has a very tough draw facing Jaume Munar in the first round who is another of the Next Gen crop but Karatsev is another will all the tools to go far, draw permitting. Winner: For the women’s side, everything points to Ash Barty but is certainly more open than the men’s side outside of her. Ones to watch: Barbora Krejcikova and Paula Badosa. The recent Sydney Final and one of the highest quality women’s matches I have seen for some time. Two contrasting styles, both could have felt hard done by not winning it. Badosa has nerves of steel and a great record in pressure matches, 3 from 3 in Finals. Long shot: Clara Tauson. Her draw is far too difficult to go far, looks like she runs into Kontaveit very early but she can certainly spring a shock. - edit to add that the above could be majorly affected by Covid. As soon as someone tests positive then they are out of the tournament. Could potentially be carnage of covid does creep into the tournament. [Post edited 17 Jan 2022 6:45]

Sorry I can’t hear you, you are echoing too much after you have fallen down my open man hole. Trampie will have to lower the troll rope to rescue you if you ask him nicely. He’s sulking at the moment after failing in his latest quest, I’m sure you will cope while he recovers

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Nadal will still have to convince me of his fitness. I’ll be keeping an eye on Rome and Monte Carlo. Although obviously a specialist, clay points are brutal. Matches often a lot longer. He was clearly absolutely beaten up after the Aussie. One to watch for me. Fully expect him to pull out of Wimbledon if he does go deep in the French. Swiatek more then capable of winning again, the women’s side will be wide open. Anyone of about 8 players could challenge.
