More information later Premier Cup ? Reinstated in the absence of the Premier League International Cup this season, on hold given COVID-related considerations, the Premier League Cup is the domestic equivalent of that competition, and returns to the domestic programme after not taking place in 2020/21. Open to Category One and Two Academies, with Categories Three and Four clubs competing in qualifiers to join them, the tournament is designed to enhance the competitiveness of the Professional Development Phase league calendar with knockout football. Swansea City won the trophy in 2017 The team that day SWANS U23: Gregor Zabret, Tyler Reid, Connor Roberts, Adnan Marić, Keston Davies (capt), Joe Rodon, Daniel James, Jay Fulton, Oli McBurnie, George Byers, Adam King. SUBS: Aaron Lewis, Lewis Thomas, Botti Biabi, Jordan Garrick, Jack Evans. Taking a similar format to the UEFA Champions’ League, where 32 teams are divided into eight groups of four, each team plays their three opponents both home and away over the course of the first six months of the competition, before one-off knockout ties ensue between the last 16 from March time onwards. Contested between Under-23 players, each side is allowed to field three over-age outfield players and a goalkeeper born before 1 January 1998 in the 2021/22 season. West Ham have been drawn in Group F alongside Category One Academy Wolves, Category Two Swansea and Category Three Exeter, who beat Plymouth Argyle in qualification. The 2021/22 campaign marks the first time in five seasons in which West Ham have competed for the trophy, but it was not all that long ago that they won it: in 2015/16, after a two-legged final ended in 1-0 home wins for both sides, the U21s defeated Hull City U21

Very good save to deny McFayden, and Lloyd put Whittaker through but was offside. Hansen's not had a save to make. Huge spaces in behind Butler and Erickson who are pushing really high into midfield. Lloyd goes close again.

Near post header from a corner somehow gets past Rushesha and Hansen who don't move. Yarmolenko celebrates like he's been told his country has been invaded. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Looked like a textbook elbow swinging back into Erickson's face. Commentators were puzzled looking for "intent" or Yarmalenko looking back to aim one, but that's not the rules. Stifled us a bit going forward. They sat off afterwards and denied Lloyd and McFayden a lot of the space they'd been exploiting. Whittaker had a golden chance to equalise but we've given up one real attempt on our goal all game and lost it.

He's good enough. Skilled on the ball and sees the picture around him. Think the club have been patient, he's been in and out of the side compared to Cotterill (seven months older and a bigger lad) and given time to adapt. Not shy of putting himself about, doesn't look out of place at all. The intention was always to fast-track those two and recruit around them rather than putting obstacles in front. He's got a bit of David Brooks about him at the moment in terms of physique. He should fill out and hopefully gain that extra yard of pace he looks to have in his gait. But he's got enough about him already to be playing u23s. The u18s aren't short of midfielders.
