Under 21s
at 12:30 28 Jun 2022

Gone are the u23s, the powers that be have decided that it's to be u21s again at the end point of football academies.

New signing Ben Blythe is entering his u21s season, so will be an overaged player for our reserves next season. With a two year contract we'll be hoping he's ready to make the step up sooner rather than later. Wasiri Williams is in his u23s season, so is already overaged. Things for the club to think about.

Academy signings

Goalkeeper Ben Hughes (2003) from Chippenham Town has reportedly agreed a scholarship for next season after a successful trial. Was in the Wales u18s squad that faced England recently. Also been involved with Wales u19s futsal apparently.

I don't think the current group of u18s goalkeepers will be kept on (Evans, Hutchings, Rutter) so it's an area we probably needed reinforcement.

Accounts confirmed.

https://www.swanseacity.com/news/swansea-city-confirm-latest-accounts-0

"Swansea City has reported a pre-tax profit of £2.7m for the financial year ending July 31, 2020"

"The club employed an average of 321 members of staff - including playing staff, backroom staff and part-time matchday staff - during the year at a cost of £40.2m. This compared to 359 staff members at a cost of £48.9m the previous year — a reduction in staff costs of £8.7m."

"The accounts include the sale of Oli McBurnie to Sheffield United, but not Joe Rodon to Tottenham Hotspur."

U23s vs Aston Villa (7pm)
at 14:50 19 Aug 2019

The young Swans started this campaign with a 1-0 victory over Norwich, but the club didn't provide a stream so who knows if it really happened. Brandon Cooper scored a right-footed thunderbolt coming forward from left-back to briefly put us top of the Division 2 table.

Tom Carroll will play tonight as he continues towards full fitness.

Kickoff 7pm. Stream here: https://www.swanseacity.com/

Another club going the youth route due to financial issues (in their case it's FFP sanctions more than actual lack of cash afaik).

We've not been invited. Shame, has been a great experience for the development lads, and we've done better than many academy sides getting past the group stages each year iirc.

Dan James, Connor Roberts and Joe Rodon in the squad. No Declan John.

Ben Davies having a hernia op right after the CL final so will miss out. No Dummett either. Neil Taylor and Ben Williams as the left-back options.

Cian Harries was at the hush hush training camp the week before the Portugal one.

Profiling Championship Fullbacks
at 11:59 22 May 2019

Following on from their excellent article on ball-playing centre halves, two good Twitter follows present one on Championship full-backs, looking at how they compare in terms of passing style, accuracy, and defensive contribution.

https://medium.com/@pannasandnutmegs/profiling-championship-full-backs-4a9ca8085

Unsurprisingly, Connor Roberts gets picked out as a standout, as van der Hoorn and Rodon were in the last article.

Dan James, Connor Roberts and Joe Rodon included in a mixed group of young and older players ahead of next month's internationals. Real squad is announced at the end of this month.

Dylan Levitt is a quality player. Never been convinced by Broadhead.

New contracts for Matt Blake (2 years), Josh Gould and Tom Price (1 year).

One year extension clauses activated for Liam Cullen and Kieran Evans.

First pro deals offered to Mason Jones-Thomas, Cameron Evans, Daniel Williams and Marc Walsh.

Ryan Blair, Keston Davies, Tyler Reid, Adam King, Adnan Maric and Jack Withers released as I expected. But Aaron Lewis I did not.

Plus Nathan Shepperd signing for Brentford after his scholarship ended.

Swans Keeper makes Team of the Season
at 16:57 24 Apr 2019

http://analyticsfc.co.uk/blog/2019/04/08/team-of-the-season-english-championship

Not the official one. And not Kris, obviously. But in the opinion of some professionals in the stats and analysis game Mulder, van der Hoorn and James (narrowly beating out Buendia) have been among the most effective individual players in the division this season (based on their "unique player performance algorithm").

Celina and Rodon also make the u23 side.
