Had Welsh rammed down my throat and dropped it as soon as I could,which is what all of us who weren't natural welsh speakers did. It gave you an easy O level though if you ere welsh speaking.
Many monoglots, like my mother, sang in Welsh in Chapels without knowing the meaning of the words. My mum detested Welsh possibly because she detested my dad' Cardy/Carms family unit,as tight a bunch as you could wish to meet.
Latin gave me the base to speak 3 language reasonably well.
