Can you imagine what John Charles would have won if Leeds hadn't refused to sell him to Real Madrid in the mid 1950's.
They refused to sell him to many of the top teams until a stand burnt down at Elland Road, and needing the money they quickly with the help of Kenneth Wolstenholme sold him to Juventus.
I was lucky enough to get very close to John when he was youth coach down the Vetch in the 1970's - what a fantastic character and story teller. Plus, most of all a brilliant coach and gentleman. |  |
