if you found one in 20 years time you could still go to a bank with it, they said so on the news earlier. it's because of the promise on every bank note, to pay the bearer on demand.

Not any old bank though. It would have to be at one of the remaining branches of "The Bank of England", of which there are now 8 throughout the UK.
