How far do you want to go in time and look at atrocities. The Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire? The difference is the UK for example has democracy and free speech. It's not perfect. But if you were Russian openly criticising Putin or his government. You would have a visit from the thought police. If lucky, let off with a few broken limbs. More likely I think you would silp out of the upstairs window and paint the concrete below red. Or just plain go missing. China possibly similar but if fortune is on you side, carted off to a nice cosy little reeducation centre. But hey ho! I know which side of the fence most sensible like minded people would sit.

Maybe you should have a word with Mr Zelensky, as he has banned most opposition parties and Tv stations and removed any opposition, Russia Today has been censored in Europe, but Not in North America. Many Russian sites have too. Do you still want to talk about free speech?
