That could well be the annual shortfall not the total running costs.

It has been stated that the wage bill we had in 21/22 has since been slashed, or at least the budget for the season going forward is that much lower.

Not that I'm advocating going out and blowing the lot like a drunken sailor on shore leave. If it didn't work out we'd only be expected by certain factions of our support to do it again the following year.

Say for arguments sake the sale of Piroe and (hopefully) Grimes nets us North of £10m, allied to this investment that should hopefully cover us for a couple of years.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Personally I think yesterday's investment is not the last in the short term, there must be some investment coming from Andy Coleman and possibly Brett Cravatt. Otherwise why would Coleman uproot his family to come here just to become a non investing chairman, there must be more to come and not a pitiful odd million as suggested by some.

Even with what has just been injected into the club this should be enough to balance the books for the next season at least. Therefore why not reinvest any income from player sales this summer, possibly Piroe, Whittaker and possibly Grimes into the squad and have a real crack next season. The promise of this would surely encourage any new manager coming in.

I'm all for having stable finances at the club, but the investment has secured this, now must be a fresh start and time to push on.

It depends on what the target is.

Realistically we're going to struggle to achieve top two against the relegated sides so that means the playoffs are our most likely source of promotion, and we could easily have made it to those last season with the squad we already had if Martin had been up to the job.

Personally I don't think we're a million miles away from being playoff contenders again next season. Obviously we have to pick the right manager, and replacing Piroe will be tricky. We've done quite well when it comes to sourcing new strikers in recent years but eventually we're going to sign a bad one. Identify the right targets and £3m ought to be enough in spending. More than enough maybe.

Our first choice full backs have also had their contracts expire. If Grimes and Fulton leave it will leave a hole there, one leaving would not be a problem but two could be difficult and don't write off an offer coming in for Ntcham. Then up front Piroe and Whittaker are gone in my opinion and don't ignore a possible offer for Cullen or Cooper. Then in defence Wood is attracting interest and rightly so. It will depend how strong the owners are, but everyone has a price, we will have to wait and see how it pans out but IMO we will have to invest a lot more than £3M.

I'm talking £3m on the squad we have minus Piroe.

Most of those are hypothetical. If Grimes goes. If Fulton goes. If Ntcham goes. If they do then they will generate the income required to replace them, and I'm far from convinced that interest will be serious enough in most to come up with the kind of price we'd want.

That's fair enough but we also need two full backs compared to last season and we also need to get in some pace from somewhere.

The pace thing is a fair point. I would certainly hope that the new boss isn't as allergic to moving the ball at pace as Martin was.

Our operating costs in Martin's first season were £40m with a shortfall of £20.5m. All the investment so far just barely keeps the debt stable. Most fans have no conception of how much we (and most of the division) are overspending our means.

Good point, Jasper, but I'm still optimistic about our future for the first time in nearly two years. We have now got rid of (Mark) Allen, Winter and 'Russ', separated the CEO and Board Chair roles and got in two new investors who are committed to hands-on leadership. Terrific result. Meanwhile I see the gloomsters on SCFC2 are trying to find any scrap of doubt or angst they can from this situation.

Poll: How long would you give Russell Martin to turn things around?

Most fans don't care as long as the club keeps showing "ambishun".
