| DWP 18:53 - Jul 29 with 1934 views | SullutaCreturned | They are a bunch of uncaring...words I cannot post. We have a friend who has worked for them over 30 years. She has been on sick leave for over a year, her husband has terminal cancer and has long outlived his prognosis, he was given less than 12 months but is still here 18 months later. Things with him have taken a bad turn and while he may still have a few months it's no longer. Our friend is now down to no pay so her choice is go back to work or finish so she applied for ill health retirement to look after her husband and she was refused. They will alow her early retirement but her pension drops by 30%. This country is rubbish, we don't help people, we make their lives harder at a time when it's already too hard. If the DWP don't give a toss about their own employees how much do they care about the rest of us? We all know the answer. | | | | |

I know and that wasn't really the complaint. They should have allowed her ill health retirement to look after her husband. We are supposed to be a compassionate society and that should start at the top with government and its institutions. What triggered me to post that is my sisters employer is still paying her full pay over a year later and as she is terminal, won't be going back. She does work for MacMillan though, or did.

So sorry to hear that, its not just the DWP though , although not quite the same ,Ive been on the sick from work since and during my recent treatment and used up my allocated sick days (which included the 6 weeks signed off when I had a op to remove my prostate 3 years ago ) so now I'm just receiving state statutory sick pay from the government (taxed of course) and not even a call from the company HR to see if I'm OK.

That's terrible, Boundy. You have my every sympathy. Our friend is similar, over 30 years in her job and since she's been off not one manager or colleague has contacted her. We probably get more support on here than mst of do or will from work. We are just numbers.

Worth exploring all the pension options in these circumstances, I have a friend in similar circumstances. She's getting a bit of traction from the pension administrator rather than the employer. It's tough when you are already up against it to have to fight these things.

Cheers ,but I'm not in you sister or friend positions which are far worse, The Company has an insurance policy which should protect people in my circumstance but doesn't include over 65's so pretty useless . As you say we're just numbers in the scheme of things and when you need help that's normally when you find it ain't there.Al the best to you ad yours

My PAYE deduction should fund people in need , NHS included , another organisation with good staff , working hard , where is their budget going , administration costs obviously . Without getting into a minefield of oplnlon here , where is my honest wage ending up . Hey Ho , my petrol bill is still high , Saudi money for over the hill players on mega bucks . Another lets take their TV audience cash , public will not be bothered over PPV fees .

Don't start on the PPV rip off. To watch all the progammes that used to be on free to air you now need Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, Sky or Virgin packages and of course the tv license which could easily come to about 150 per month, 1800 per year. You're dead right though, the people most in need at are the back of the queue. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Then maybe don't watch it? One of the best things I ever did was knock Sky on the head. From sitting on my arse watching football for eight hours on a Sunday to getting out and doing anything else whilst saving £100 a month in the process. I don't even pay for a TV licence now as I don't watch live TV. It's been liberating.

We don't have all of those services and indeed, we have discussed this and will be ditching as much as we can, including the film and sports channels. All we really need is the high speed internet because my wife works from home. We'll obviously take whatever comes with that but otherwise it's going. My comment was a general one about everybody. You cannot just turn on the tv and watch everything anymore and you have to trawl through tonnes of rubbish to find a few ounces of tv gold. Even then much of th good stuff is on PPV. The streaming services, you can switch them off, keep one if there's things you watch but when that runs dry, turn it off and look at a different one, I reckon only an idiot will pay to have ALL of them on at the same time!

My son has one subscription service running at a time and swaps to another every 4 to 6 weeks. He says that's enough to pick up any loss leaders etc.
