When there is a unification referendum a very strange occurrence could take place.
In the 2019 GE a huge number of natural Labour voters in the Red Wall seats voted Conservative for the very first (and hopefully last) time. And they did that in order to ‘Get Brexit Done’. They ‘lent’ the Conservatives their vote for the one specific purpose. Because they had voted for Brexit.
In Northern Ireland, in the 2016 referendum, the vote was 58% to remain. Which means that a substantial number of unionists voted for remain. So, when the Unification referendum happens it’s quite possible that a similar thing will happen as per the 2019 GE. Except in reverse.
The Red Wall voters voted Tory to get Brexit done. In NI unionists may vote for the Nationalists unification argument (lend them their vote for the one specific purpose) in order to rejoin the EU. Because they had voted remain.

We aren’t though. The Senedd is responsible for pretty much every sector you can think of within wales. Health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, policing, business, the list is endless. They even have power to raise taxes even though they choose not to use them.
The only things Westminster really have control over is foreign affairs and defence. |  |

No - dont buy that position.
We have had great politicians who delivered for working people. Nye and the NHS, David Lloyd George and his Old Age Pensions act. There are equality laws - and work place safety and working hours laws which people now take for granted.
Most peoples lives are better as a result. Progressive politics that delivers.
But the right wing English nationalist public schoolboys like Johnson and Farage appear to be in it to extract from the public purse for themselves and their friends. Not operating for the benefit of the people.
Where you are right though is that we are producing less people like Nye and more like Mogg. Good people are reluctant to stand due to the gutter press treatment that is now inevitable.
I think Cymru has a better option to look at. | |

I'm not talking about politicians from 70 years ago, or older. In modern politics there is far too much cronyism, there's nepotism and to get on and make a career you have to kow-tow to the leadership, do as you're told or else.
Good, honest politicians never get anywhere because they stand on their principles so the liars, the cheats, the dishonest, greedy and self serving climb the greasy pole because they will rown nose until they get to the point of genuine power.
The Kinnocks are a prime example, nepotism, Stephen Kinnock, would he have gotten anywhere in politics without his dad and being parachuted into a safe seat? Then his dad who used to be anti House of Lords and anti EU yet has his seat in the Lords AND a nice EU pension, he's a hyocrite at best.
Too many of them are like this and they are taking us down a very bad road. Westminster, the Senedd or up in Scotland, our current politicians cannot be trusted. We need change BUT how do we get the change we need when the people we need to make those changes are the very cause of the problem? | | | |
