Next season’s squad 09:13 - Feb 15 with 3370 viewsMikeyG85

We have Cook, Hayden, JCS all out of contract. Morrison supposedly to return from loan and maybe Field. Based on age, injury and form you maybe give one of the above an extension. So where do we need to add quality to genuinely push on next year?

Right back - Problem position for years, we have cb’s and cm’s doing a job currently. Adamson needs a loan.

Left back - RND is on loan, need to sign at least one player.

Attacking mid - We have so many wide and 10’s but are any consistent enough, such a strange season when reviewing this area of the squad. Do we try to move a couple on such as Saito and Dembele or give them another year?

Forward - Kolli needs either more game time or a loan. Do we have a back up for Kone and is he even good enough as our main man!?

Thoughts?

I honestly think a quality goalkeeper and two specialist full backs that can both defend and stick a decent cross in would be totally transformative. Everyone else would look miles better.

Whilst I agree that we need at least 2 full-backs and a solid keeper, signing them won't transform the midfield. We need at least 2 box-to-box midfielders. Folk who can impose themselves on a match and dictate the tempo.

The club have been giving plenty of games to Esquerdinha, Morgan and Bennie. Why do you think we're better off sending them on loan? At what level? If it's not L1 ( or better) why would we?
Who's to say we don't start using Salamon as 3rd choice keeper. Or renew Hamer?

They don’t get consistent game time, which is what they need to develop. Not fits and spurts.

As a supposed development club, there should be an enquiry as to why none of the major dev squad talents and fringe first team players have been sent out of loan, apart from Sutton.

Morgan, Kolli, Bennie, Equerdinha from first team fringes.

Tylon Smyth - already 20 years old - with 1 men’s first team appearance to his name. Alemayahu, Pearman, etc. from the Dev Squad.

Good post and like many on here, I've been banging on about our seemingly poor use of the loan system.

I've not seen Keeper Cooper play, but he seems to be getting solid reviews and has earned himself a 'promotion' to the Championship in the process.

Now, you can't just send a player off where you like, but it's a part of our operation that needs attention and PDQ if we're going to be this development model. But also, we need the pups playing and as we seem hell-bent on flooding the place out with prospects, I do wonder how much game time they're all getting.

We made £3m off Kelman not because he was playing in the DS and/or on the subs bench and we appear to have something in Cooper and I'd suggest, it's significantly due to playing 'proper' mens football.

I did read a good post on here about why someone going to say, Braintree on loan wasn't the worst thing for a first loan. But, as with Eze and Chair, and Kelman and Cooper, the higher up the food chain, the better.

You can only assume that with the injury list we have, they are reluctant to make loans - just in case another fly drops.

Can’t loan Kolli if he’s the only second striker - Bennie the utility player that covers anyone and anything.

What would we do had Kone stayed down and been out for two weeks after the heavy contact on Saturday ?

Cant loan the Aussie RB or Esqi either right now.

Madsen out for a couple of weeks = Morgan needs to stay and cover.

Root cause = injuries rather than reluctance to loan I would guess.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?
