Amazing how the other half live isn't it? Just 20 years after splashing out 390M on the Emirates stadium, they are considered splashing out another 500M to increase the capacity!
Makes Loftus, as Ronnie Edwards would say, extremely small fry in the scheme of things!

Possibly the main three reasons are faced by all clubs wanting to expand ore upgrade their stadium
- financial imperative - ownership strategy - political trade offs
Can we now - stay put at Loftus - dig down and build up - acquire Loftus road and Ellerslie roads and Imre court houses and build new residential complexes to relocate the residents, and acquire the school
In the last 20 years at Highbury they won the League title 5 times, the FA Cup 4 times, the League Cup twice and the UEFA Cup winners cup.
In the 20 years they’ve been at the Emirates they have won the FA Cup four times. That is the sum total of their majors honours.
Not sure how a few extra seats will turn them into the domestic and European powerhouse they want to be. Hundred of millions of pounds for an extra 10k-20k seats which, once extra match day overheads factored in, will yield an extra 30% income increase (at a guess). Most of those seats will be for tourists anyway. There will be a token amount for those on the ST waiting list but that will be done begrudgingly.
Sounds good, doesn’t it. Except that once done and you are about to sign a new coveted player, the agent will go “you want him? price has gone up 30%”. Same for any contract renewals.
Then you have a squad of players all costing 30% more than 2026.
So, you just stand still. As the lady alluded to about Highbury, the stadium then hits another ceiling (“financial anchor”) and once that’s maxed out, then what.
Ok, some may argue you now have the cream of the crop of players. Well, what happens when you’re not winning silverware (sic) season after season that kind of outlay demands. At best you have a very disgruntled fan base (more than they are already) and at worst what happens if attendance actually drops, you’re in the schit now that you weren’t in before at 60k capacity.
Games gone, innit.
