I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

Ok, thats all I know.

William Wordsworth was massively anti-slavery, his brother was pro-slavery. Now because his brother used to visit him at his home, which was left to the National Trust, they have decided to put it on their "list of shame".

Bonkers mun

Way back somewhere I said that if they take this to it's logical conclusion everything will have to be torn down...well words to that effect.

There will be some big companies and very big names on that list of shame, Mercedes, Hugo Boss to start. Or are they allowed? How many slave traders will have been to Buck palace and other palaces across the world? How many famous names will be innocent? Not many. It's ludicrous.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Nobody is suggesting tearing down National Trust owned historical buildings. Don't be silly mun. I haven't read the report but it seems to be about educating people. Can't see the problem with more education myself.

A brief explanation of the report here.

https://www.nationaltrust.org.

The report itself. It's pretty big.

https://nt.global.ssl.fastly.n

As you can imagine a certain type of person is up in arms about it, cancelling their subscriptions etc. I wouldn't expect anything else.

It is a “certain type of person” who would pay a monthly subscription to the National Trust, Hump. Traditionalists (upper case T) with a reverence for the nation’s architectural heritage and possessed of a deep desire to conserve it. The last people on God’s earth willing to buy into the Woke agenda.

I clicked on the link you put up and rolled my eyes half way down as I spotted Corinne Fowler. I know full well who she is, Hump. The author of ‘This green unpleasant land’ is pretty much the antithesis of all your average NT member holds dear. If a lot of them are now voting with their direct debits it comes as no surprise to me. If enough of them do it the damage could be irreparable.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Me? Of course.

S'up Chad? Bored? Missing DJ already?

BTW, glad to see you standing up for your feminist principles the other day, with regards to the C word. Absolutely disgusting.

Tell me Chad, are you against everybody using that word?

Excellent, admirable of you to admit it

Why should I be missing DJ, has he been banned for implying I should F off? After all he did impressively phrase it in the wish of sex and travel

Do you ask everyone who posts on the website if they are bored?

Indeed I take exception to the c word, most especially when the person using it has pretence of higher moral values regarding equality. But actually since the website spilt and until the recent return of many posters, such abuse seemed to have largely disappeared.

I significantly complained about it at a time when my almost every post (even wishing the team well in a match) was dogged with abuse including being called a vile c etc. Interesting at that time despite my repeated complaints it was deemed ok to stalk a women’s polite posts on this website, with vile female genital related abuse.

Interestingly that started because of me pulling a poster up on his racist and homophobic comments about Danish fans. Anyway Darren has since apologised. But the Responsibility was with the mods and the then website owner that allowed this repeated abuse.

N.B. If you don’t consider abuse against a minority of Danish fans may be consider racist, please refer to the EU regulations.

Have you got past 2 yet in the number of times I mentioned you incorrectly stating who stopped the prepared plaque detailing his involvement in the slavery trade going on th Colston statue, that you posted posted on multiple threads. What was it you said? 11. I presume you went back and corrected your false statements, blaming the Conservatives rather that the ‘black activist’ mayor.

Actually I am a long term member of the National Trust and have just returned from a lakeside camping holiday at one of their sites in Wordsworth country. Although a regular there I have never visited the Wordsworth property as it is always swamped, But IF correct extending the self hate to the sins of the brothers does seem a little farcical.

I look forward to a time when any place that had cotton woven in mills where children were expected to work inside moving machinery (to mend threads etc. without stopping the process) and were regularly severely injured, etc. etc. becomes part of our education and of course the women who throughout history were and still are treated as slaves and chattels.

Of course it might be helpful for Africa to annotate statues in Africa of the African slave traders who facilitated the Atlantic slave trade by capturing and selling their own people. Also any involved in the massively longer Arab slave trade (which used many women and children, often sexually abused on the way over), and of course the long pre existing, internal slavery. Of course not just in Africa.
